Message-ID: Dear Bolin Centre Scientists, Do you want to engage kids in climate issues? You are all doing excellent research and teaching, but how about a break from all that? The Bolin Centre offers some excellent opportunities to disseminate your knowledge by meeting kids at the Bolin Days for Youngsters! The Bolin Centre has organised this week every spring since 2014 and it has been both fun and an eye opener for the kids as well as the scientists. We have developed a couple of labs and an interactive theatre which have been very appreciated. New development for spring 2017 The mood of the society has changed since the Paris agreement in December 2015. No one (at least no one worth speaking of) is questioning that climate change is happening very fast and that mankind is a major contributor. The societal focus now is on how to handle the situation. Unfortunately the rapid climate change frightens and make people apathetic and we have seen tendencies of this among the kids at the Bolin Days for Youngsters. We would like to develop the Bolin Days for Youngsters to include the science done by former EkoKlim members and also weave in discussions of what we, normal people, can do about climate change. Would you like to join? If you have ideas about how to interact with kids about climate change, its effects and what we can do about it, please join our working group! Please email Elisabeth Däcker, elisabeth.dacker at geo.su.se , preferably before the end of the Bolin Days The target group is at present kids 6-8 years, 9-11 years, but activities for 12-15 years is very welcome. The Bolin Days for Youngsters week will as usual be during the spring, probably during April or May, but we start early this year to have time to develop the new activities. A start up meeting will be scheduled to early December. Organiser for the Bolin Days for Youngsters 2017 is Elisabeth Däcker, elisabeth.dacker at geo.su.se Best regards, Karin Dr. Karin Jonsell Coordinator & Communicator Bolin Centre for Climate Research Stockholm University SE-106 91 Stockholm, Sweden Visiting address: Room S314, Geoscience Building at Frescati, Svante Arrhenius väg 8, Stockholm Phone: +46 (0)8 674 75 97 Mobile: +46 (0)70 206 2445 E-mail: karin.jonsell at su.se www.bolin.su.se The Bolin Centre for Climate Research is a collaboration between Stockholm University, KTH and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Frontal energetics make for a mixed layer environment with large horizontal density fronts present in the spring and summer months. We provide evidence that during this time, wind stress directed along a density front in the direction of the current induces a destabilising flux to reduce the upper ocean stratification. Conversely, quiescent wind phases along with up-front reversals are synonymous with an enhancement of upper ocean stratification. This restratifying flux is coherent with enhanced horizontal density gradients within the mixed layer. In addition to these findings, potential vorticity estimates provide information regarding the stability of the flow. Mixing phases indicate a highly unstable mixed layer, while the restratification of the mixed layer returns the potential vorticity to a stable state. These results promote the importance of horizontal density gradients and winds in the Southern Ocean, which are important in determining the stability of the mixed layer, and could have an important influence on the biogeochemistry and carbon fluxes. The cold ice surface and the advection of warm air aloft from the south result in a semi-continuous presence of a temperature inversion, known as the "Arctic inversion", which is governed by interacting large-scale and local processes, such as surface fluxes and cloud formation. In this thesis these poorly understood interactions are investigated using observations from field campaigns on the Swedish icebreaker Oden: The Arctic Summer Cloud Ocean Study (ASCOS) in 2008 and the Arctic Clouds in Summer Experiment (ACSE) in 2014. Two numerical models are also used to explore these data: the IFS global weather forecast model from the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts and the MIMICA LES from Stockholm University. Arctic clouds can persist for a long time, days to weeks, and are usually mixed-phase; a difficult to model mixture of super-cooled cloud droplets and ice crystals. Their persistence has been attributed to several mechanisms, such as large-scale advection, surface evaporation and microphysical processes. ASCOS observations indicate that these clouds are most frequently decoupled from the surface; hence, surface evaporation plays a minor role. The determining factor for cloud-surface decoupling is the altitude of the clouds. Turbulent mixing is generated in the cloud layer, forced by cloud-top radiative cooling, but with a high cloud this cannot penetrate down to the surface mixed layer, which is forced primarily by mechanical turbulence. A special category of clouds is also found: optically thin liquid-only clouds with stable stratification, hence insignificant in-cloud mixing, which occur in low-aerosol conditions. IFS model fails to reproduce the cloud-surface decoupling observed during ASCOS. A new prognostic cloud physics scheme in IFS improves simulation of mixed-phase clouds, but does not improve the warm bias in the model, mostly because IFS fails to disperse low surface-warming clouds when observations indicate cloud-free conditions. With increasing summer open-water areas in a warming Arctic, there is a growing interest in processes related to the ice marginal zones and the summer-to-autumn seasonal transition. ACSE included measurements over both open-water and sea-ice surfaces, during melt and early freeze. The seasonal transition was abrupt, not gradual as would have been expected if it was primarily driven by the gradual changes in net solar radiation. After the transition, the ocean surface remained warmer than the atmosphere, enhancing surface cooling and facilitating sea-ice formation. Observations in melt season showed distinct differences in atmospheric structure between the two surface types; during freeze-up these largely disappear. In summer, large-scale advection of warm and moist air over melting sea ice had large impacts on atmospheric stability and the surface. This is explored with an LES; results indicate that while vertical structure of the lowest atmosphere is primarily sensitive to heat advection, cloud formation, which is of great importance to the surface energy budget, is primarily sensitive to moisture advection. An event based approach is taken by objectively defining phenomena termed ``moisture intrusions'' -- filamentary flows of anomalously moist air which originate at 70$^{\circ}$N and cross the entire Arctic basin. They typically emanate from within the poleward advecting branches of mid-latitude cyclones held in place by blocking patterns to the east. Moisture intrusions contribute only a minority of the total northward moisture transport at 70$^{\circ}$N, yet drive a significant proportion of the inter annual variability in surface temperature and downward longwave radiation over the entire polar cap. A positive trend in the frequency of these events, in response to a moistening of the atmosphere, is shown to have driven approximately 45\% and 35\% of the observed warming and sea ice decline in the Barents Sea during Dec-Jan over the past two decades. Moisture intrusions act to erode the temperature inversion and thus contribute to bottom amplified warming even in the absence of sea ice loss. Negative sea ice anomalies induced by intrusions persist for up to weeks at a time -- promoting upward turbulent heat fluxes and further bottom amplified warming. Systematic biases in the statistics of moisture intrusions are discovered in the CMIP5 models. The biases are predominantly a result of misrepresentation of the intense moisture fluxes and are almost entirely due to biases in the meridional velocity. Moisture intrusion biases explain only about 17\% of the temperature bias in the Atlantic sector. The predicted biases, while small in amplitude, are very highly correlated with the true biases in the models however, suggesting that the temperature bias directly induced by misrepresented intrusion statistics may be strongly amplified by sea ice feedback. A analysis of the uncertainties in computed turbulent air-sea flux (TASF) climatologies arising due to the parameterisation of bulk formulae is also presented. TASF climatologies are computed over a series of sensitivity experiments using surface state variables from ERA-Interim. The largest source of uncertainty is related to the computation of the transfer coefficients and hence the choice of bulk algorithm itself. The majority of parameter approximations have small impacts when tested individually, but can lead to large disagreements when implemented in tandem. Begin forwarded message: From: "Anderson, Bruce" > Subject: Postdoctoral Position in Ocean and Atmosphere Modeling Date: 10 November 2016 at 22:29:19 GMT+1 To: Rodrigo Caballero > Hi Rodrigo, As you may have seen on various listservs (or soon will see), a research team I’m heading up has a new opportunity for a postdoctoral research associate to investigate various extratropical influences on the initiation and evolution of El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events using global ocean and coupled climate models. We were wondering if you could circulate this email to your department and/or to any students/postdocs that you think might be interested? And if you have any particularly strong students finishing up soon, certainly have them apply as well! The position itself will be offered through the University of Miami – Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies ("CIMAS”), although the postdoctoral associate will closely collaborate with myself at Boston University as well as with scientists at Texas A&M and NOAA. The postdoc will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing controlled numerical model experiments to test a number of research hypotheses focused on the efficacy of extratropical atmospheric forcing of ENSO events, which in turn will improve our understanding of sources and limitations of ENSO predictability and lead to improved predictions of developing ENSO events. The postdoc will also have access to numerous career preparation activities including collaboration with researchers in both academic and cooperative (academic-federal) institutions, funding to attend national and international conferences, and access to professional development seminars and workshops for early-career researchers. More information about the position, and instructions for how to apply, can be found at the following web link: https://um.hodesiq.com/job_detail.asp?JobID=5358978&user_id=&ViewAll= People who are interested in the postdoctoral position can also contact the postdoctoral mentor (Renellys Perez, Renellys.C.Perez at noaa.gov), myself (Bruce Anderson, brucea at bu.edu) or Benjamin Giese (b-giese at tamu.edu) for more details about the project. I sent out a message earlier about some sessions on linking science and communities hosted by the Thriving Earth Exchange at the upcoming AGU Fall Meeting. Julie Vano at NCAR has put together a nice summary and timetable for several other related sessions. If you are interested in science-policy-practice connections and you will be attending the AGU meeting, here is your roadmap! Cheers, Kevin Greetings Colleagues, Before you book your tickets to San Francisco, we wanted to get the word out about a series of sessions that explore the science-policy interface and community decision-making. A group of us have worked to create this sequence of sessions, resulting in 11 total sessions (talks, lighting talks, posters, and discussions on Tuesday-Thursday) that span the topics of decision maker-scientist engagement, collaborating with communities, and the use of climate and hazard data by communities. We hope this collection of activities will help strengthen our community of practice and help us all to build stronger bridges between science and application. We encourage you to put these sessions on your calendar (note: they are in Public Affairs, so it might not come up in your typical AGU searches) and stay throughout. This in an invitation to attend our workshop on the Eocene-Oligocene Transition (EOT) to be held at Stockholm University 1-3 February 2017. This fascinating climate transition, when Antarctica become widely glaciated for the first time, has been the focus of much research but there is to date no clear picture of what happened to the climate or ocean circulation during the transition or what may have forced the climate switch. During the workshop we aim to make progress on this problem by bringing together the world expert modellers and paleoclimatologists working on this problem (see list below). If you are interested to attend please register by emailing me by *15 December*. Please provide your field of expertise and whether you are interested in giving a talk or just to attend. If you would like to give a talk, please provide me also with a preliminary title. We will try to accommodate all talks if possible but it will depend on how many requests we receive. If you would like to attend but are not sure yet whether you can, please also email me by 15 December. We can then keep a list of "maybes" that we can keep in touch with seperately as needed. We will not advertise the final program to the whole Bolin Centre as we wish to keep the workshop focussed and dedicated and not have people attend only specific talks. You therefore need to register to attend, get a name badge, get tea/coffee and lunches and perhaps a conference dinner. The Swiss Climate Research, the network of leading Swiss institutions in climate research and education, invites young scientists to join high-profile climate researchers on the occasion of the 16th International Swiss Climate Summer School 2017. With the advent of satellites and high-performance computing, the resolution of climate information is dramatically increasing. This development is of critical importance from scientific and societal points of view. It will improve the representation of key processes, weather systems and extreme events; reduce uncertainties in climate projections; and facilitate the use of climate information for mitigation and adaptation measures. Topics covered will include: • What observational methodologies provide high-resolution data? • How suitable are current global and regional climate models for high-resolution application? • What is the role of high resolution in representing extreme events such as heat waves, droughts, windstorms and floods? • How can we exploit the highly parallel and heterogeneous hardware architectures of emerging generations of high-performance supercomputers? • How can high-resolution information be used to inform decision processes in the context of a changing climate? The courses cover a broad spectrum of cutting-edge climate research and foster cross-disciplinary links. Each topic includes keynote plenary lectures and workshops with in-depth discussion in smaller groups. All Summer School participants are expected to present a poster of their research. There will be ample opportunity for discussion. The Summer School is open to young researchers (PhD students and Post-Docs) worldwide from all fields of climate research. Participation is highly competitive and will be limited to a maximum of 70. Further information about the Summer School and the application procedure can be found in the attached flyer or visit the website www.climateresearch.ch Application deadline: 31 December 2016. Message-ID: <58335D64.3030205@geo.su.se> Dear Bolin Centre members, Most of you have heard at last week's Bolin Days about the Bolin Linking Program, which is a *mentoring program for Bolin Center Scientists.* As promised, in addition to the in-person sign up at the Bolin Days booth, here is a last electronic call for mentors and mentees to sign up by responding to this email by Friday 25 Nov. *Special call for mentors: * The success of the program depends on good matching. The bigger our pool of mentors, the better our matching will be. A big pool of mentors also means that we don't need to use all mentors every year and that the mentoring of our more junior staff is shared between our more senior staff. Note that the meetings are often about 3-8 lunches per year which is not a huge burden. It is a service to the community which can be stated on your CV. It is also very rewarding. So please do consider to sign up and pay forward for all the help and mentoring you have received yourself in your career. *Main characteristics of the program: * *Voluntary:*All mentees and mentor volunteer. This means the program is always only as big at the need it fulfills. *Confidential:*We never mention who signs up unless permission is given such as for marketing. Mentee-mentor interactions are also strictly confidential. *Cross-departmental:*The mentees are signed up with mentors in other departments to provide more objectivity and avoid conflict of interest. *Mentee-driven:*The mentees make the first contact and decide the frequency and format of the meetings. This is because the needs of every mentee are individual and a single format will not be optimal for all. *Annual:*The program runs annually from the Bolin Days. After that pairs may wish to continue formally, informally, sign up for new pairs, or leave the program. *Signing up as mentee, please provide:* Name, department, field of study and position. If a postdoc or more advanced, please state years since Phd. Please also say whether you have any preference for mentors regarding seniority (experience), gender, language, or any other considerations. Please mention if some of your preferences are less important than others in case it is difficult to fulfill all preferences. ** *Signing up as mentor, please provide:* Name, department, field of study and position. If you are a postdoc or researcher, please tell us your years since PhD, number of postdocs, or other indication of experience to that we can link you up to a suitable mentee (we ideally have a mentor with at least 5 years more experience than the mentee). That is the most important information. Please sign up by Friday 25 November. For those interested, please see more specific information below for mentees and mentors. Best regards, Agatha & Malin *More information for mentees:* You will receive and email from me in the next 3 weeks with information about your mentor. It is your responsibility to contact your mentor to set up a first meeting. Remember that they signed up voluntarily so you do not need to feel guilty about taking up their time but remember everyone is busy to don't get discouraged if they cannot see you right away. At the first meeting you will need to discuss your preferred meeting frequency which can range from three times a year to monthly. You also need to think about whether you prefer an informal or more structured meeting setup. An informal meeting could start with a simple "how are things going?" and proceed from there. In a more structure meeting you could make up a short personal development program for the next two years which may include goals such as thesis writing, courses, conference attendance, publications, career development, personal goals, etc. Then you can discuss at each meeting how progress towards those goals are proceeding and discuss how to overcome the challenges if you missed your goals. It is up to the mentee to choose which setup they prefer since the linking program is there to serve the needs of the mentee. Of course you can choose something in between these choices or change from one to the other at any point. *More information for mentors:* The program is mentee-driven and the mentee will contact you to set up a first meeting. It is natural for the mentee to leave it up to the mentor, as the senior, to lead the meetings. The mentor can therefore at the first meeting determine what the mentee's main motivation for mentorship are and which frequency and format they prefer and how the next meeting will be set up. Also, please mention that the interaction is completely confidential and both should commit to that pledge to ensure trust. From previous years' mentor feedback it came to light that it is difficult for mentors to determine whether they were useful while their mentees expressed appreciation for the interaction. So even if it doesn't always feel that you are useful, you probably are! *Selected feedback from the 2014-2015 round of the Linking Program:* *From mentees:* It was extremely useful. I had 4-5 meetings with my mentor that were very helpful and a great way to share ideas Great to get unbiased input on different issues Able to get advice on a job application which was very useful to improve both my CV and cover letter It was especially usefully to get to talk with a female mentor about what it is like being a woman in science, since not many of the people I usually work with can give any good insight when it comes to this aspect. Great that consideration has gone into the matching of mentee and mentor as this worked very well. " It was good to talk with someone who is not directly involved in my scientific career. I like that there was a formal way to find a mentor and one doesn't have to find oneself. It could be especially important for Phd students who don't get along well with their supervisors It provides connections with researchers in neighboring fields. It has been really great. My mentor was the perfect person to speak to regarding the academic process. I am sure my mentor and I will be in contact beyond the program and the introduction was invaluable. It is also a good opportunity to meet and learn about other departments and nearby disciplines. It was good to have someone experienced outside the department to get some feedback from. ** *From mentors* I acted as an extra listening ear able to give some advice Great initiative. I enjoyed the meetings and learned a lot myself. Good to hear how SU and PhD education is working from a different perspective as ones own. In general it was fun to meet and see that there are good working groups out there across campus. The program is a really good idea. I very much enjoyed the meetings and believe we will continue them regardless of the program -- Agatha M. de Boer, Associate Professor Dept. of Geological Science and Bolin Centre for Climate Research Stockholm University, 106 91 Stockholm, Tel: +46 8 16 4730 http://people.geo.su.se/agatha/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The overarching scientific objective of (AC)³ is to identify, investigate, and evaluate the key processes contributing to Arctic Amplification, improve our understanding of the major feedback mechanisms, and quantify their relative importance for Arctic Amplification. Within an initial four year phase researchers from the Universities of Leipzig, Bremen and Cologne, the Alfred Wegener Instiute and TROPOS will will focus on atmospheric and surface processes, because the ongoing rapid changes in the Arctic climate imply that mechanisms involve important atmospheric influences by combined observational and modelling efforts from oacl to Arctic wide scale. Du kan behöva redigera ditt svar och uppdatera din kalender. Dear all, Due to an unfortunate time overlap between the RA8 workshop and a dissertation that we were made aware of after we sent the first invitation, we must change the start time for the workshop. It will take place on the same day as previously planned, December 16, but we will start 14.30 instead of 13.00. We hope that those of you that have signed up already will be able to attend anyway! Would you please visit the Doodle again and note if you can still come. We apologize for any inconvenience that this change may have caused you. The year without a summer The Tambora eruption in April 1815 and the “year without a summer” 1816 Only a few natural events affect humanity at global scale. One of those events was the tropical volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia in April 1815. The eruption brought immediate devastation to Sumbawa and the neighboring islands. The impacts were also felt around the world for many months. In North America and Europe, 1816 became known as the “year without a summer”. The consequences of the unsettled cold and wet conditions in western and central Europe, the eastern US and the failure of the Asian monsoon were devastating both economically and socially. The extreme weather led to poor harvests and malnutrition, but also demonstrated the capability of humans to adapt and help others in worse conditions. Although a tragic event – more than 100 000 people died – the eruption also was an “experiment of nature” from which science has learned until today. We are the first generation to be broadly aware of these consequences yet the last generation able to turn global development into a path of sustainability to avoid severely undermining the living space for our children and coming generations. We are in decade zero – with current trends, we will 15 years from now have a planetary warming 1.5°C above pre-industrial. Last time the planet was this warm was 115,000-130,000 years ago when such warming was accompanied by sea level rise of 6-9 m. In 30 years from now, warming is expected to reach 2°C, unprecedented of at least the last one million years. This will bring melting of most mountain glaciers, including the Himalaya-Tibetan glaciers, the Water Tower of Asia, mega droughts, heat waves, storms and floods, affecting food security, water security and (inter)national security. There is hope, but we need to act now and with force. This presentation will after a brief summary of the “big picture”, present some of our own specific work on the sources and effects of the Atmospheric Brown Cloud (ABC) over S Asia, aimed at improving the understanding of the sources of the emissions (in order to advise policy makers on efficient mitigation), and climate forcing effects over S Asia. Finally, a set of scalable solutions for the World and for S Asia will be proposed. -- Ingo Fetzer, PhD Stockholm Resilience Centre Stockholm University Kräftriket 2B, 11419 Stockholm Mail: ingo.fetzer at su.se -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Diagnostic methods allow the extraction of properties such as moisture origin, lifetime and transport distance from model data. During precipitation extremes, these quantities can provide insight into the dynamical contributions that amplify an event. However, atmospheric moisture transport pathways and processes rely on model data and thus dependend also on model resolution and parameterisations. A comparison of two complementary approaches to diagnose moisture transport properties for selected events is presented. The Lagrangian diagnostic based on backward trajectories agrees well with the results from the Eulerian method based on water tracers in a regional model. This underpins the validity of the transport scales of water vapour, namely the atmospheric moisture residence time and the transport distance for a particular data set. In order to tie both model diagnostics to reality, stable water isotopes can be employed. The direct interpretation of stable water isotopes is however often complicated by the fact that they represent the integrated atmospheric transport history of water vapour. Using airborne field data from the recent HYMEX campaign in the Mediterranean it is outlined how stable water isotopes can support the interpretation of model-derived scales of water vapour transport. We would like to draw you attention to the upcoming International Congress on Arctic Social Science **ICASS IX** which takes place June 8-12, 2017 in Umeå, Sweden, see http://iassa.org/icass-ix Specifically, we would like to invite you to submit an abstract to session 14:2 ”Curating the Polyvocal Arctic: dialogue, explanation and translation”. This session is part of the ICASS IX’s Theme 14, Museums & Heritage, and focuses on the curatorial challenges of climate change and multidisciplinary cooperation. To complement the session’s invited presentations, we now welcome contributions from all involved disciplines and communities that bring new project presentations and/or perspectives related to the theme, conveyed in the abstract below. Abstract for Session 14.2: Ongoing rapid climate change has relocated the Arctic, formerly often perceived of as the End of the world, at the centre of global attention. Large scale challenges do not only unsettle perceptions of place, but urgently call for new dialogues to understand and communicate multiple understandings of and experiences in the Arctic. The session is a joint initiative by culture and climate research and invites ideas and experiences on curation and other kinds of cooperation that actively set out to cross established borders and hierarchies between differing knowledge producing regimes. How can dialogues be opened between Indigenous and scientific expertise, and/or between art, natural and cultural science? What are the communicative tools that may translate many voices, explanatory models and analytical perspectives to larger audiences? Abstract submission is now open - in order to submit go to http://iassa.org/icass-ix, click on "Themes, Sessions & Submissions" , find "Museums & Heritage", click on the green button and follow the instructions. The deadline for abstract submissions is *December 16*. Prof. Gunhild Rosqvist will chair the dissertation. Supervisors have been myself and Prof. Peter Kuhry. I hope to see many of you there! Sincerely, Gustaf Thesis abstract Large amounts of carbon are stored in soils of the northern circumpolar permafrost region. High-resolution mapping of this soil organic carbon (SOC) is important to better understand and predict local to global scale carbon dynamics. In this thesis, studies from five different areas across the permafrost region indicate a pattern of generally higher SOC storage in Arctic tundra soils compared to forested sub-Arctic or Boreal taiga soils. However, much of the SOC stored in the top meter of tundra soils is permanently frozen, while the annually thawing active layer is deeper in taiga soils and more SOC may be available for turnover to ecosystem processes. The results show that significantly more carbon is stored in soils compared to vegetation, even in fully forested taiga ecosystems. This indicates that over longer timescales, the SOC potentially released from thawing permafrost cannot be offset by a greening of the Arctic. For all study areas, the SOC distribution is strongly influenced by the geomorphology, i.e. periglacial landforms and processes, at different spatial scales. These span from the cryoturbation of soil horizons, to the formation of palsas, peat plateaus and different generations of ice-wedges, to thermokarst creating kilometer scale macro environments. In study areas that have not been affected by Pleistocene glaciation, SOC distribution is highly influenced by the occurrence of ice-rich and relief-forming Yedoma deposits. This thesis investigates the use of thematic maps from highly resolved satellite imagery (<6.5 m resolution). These reveal important information on the local distribution and variability of SOC, but their creation requires advanced classification methods including an object-based approach, modern classifiers and data-fusion. The results of statistical analyses show a clear link of land cover and geomorphology with SOC storage. Peat-formation and cryoturbation are identified as two major mechanisms to accumulate SOC. As an alternative to thematic maps, this thesis demonstrates the advantages of digital soil mapping of SOC in permafrost areas using machine-learning methods, such as support vector machines, artificial neural networks and random forests. Overall, high-resolution satellite imagery and robust spatial prediction methods allow detailed maps of SOC. This thesis significantly increases the amount of soil pedons available for the individual study areas. Yet, this information is still the limiting factor to better understand the SOC distribution in permafrost environments at local and circumpolar scale. Soil pedon information for SOC quantification should at least distinguish the surface organic layer, the mineral subsoil in the active layer compared to the permafrost and further into organic rich cryoturbated and buried soil horizons. ?---------- Gustaf Hugelius Senior Lecturer Department of Physical Geography Stockholm University Visiting Scholar Department of Earth System Science Stanford University -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
