We were already planning on inviting people from Lund, to explore potential synergies and collaboration activities. If it fits, we could arrange a dedicated MERGE-BOLIN side meeting? Or is it better to have a common workshop the week after (together with the modelling meeting)? Ilona and I would be fine with both suggestions. We hope to add to it. Patrick Crill, Sally MacIntyre, and myself would like request your contribution to the discussion. Please consider submitting an abstract and/or send it to potentially interested people: Gas Fluxes from and into Inland and Coastal Waters: Integrating Hydrodynamics and Biogeochemistry Session B055 (https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/prelim.cgi/Session/81270) It is critical to investigate the physical connections to the biogeochemical processes of transformation and transport through land and fresh and coastal waters to the atmosphere. Rates of lateral and vertical transport moderate timescales of loading, remineralization, mobilization, and release of climate forcing gases. Defining physical and biological controls on relevant emissions enables scaling for carbon budgets. Time series measurements of concentrations and fluxes coupled with meteorology and physical limnology/oceanography illustrate the importance of controls such as stratification, turbulent heat and momentum flux, ice cover, and mixing dynamics. Modeling and analytical capacities are keeping pace, while new tools and approaches allow results to be placed in the context of scalar variability within climate. We invite presentations examining linkages between measurements of gas emissions and physical forcings that define variability of fluxes from surface waters at local to regional scales. Please also share with other interested colleagues! *Session ID:* 83749 *Session Title:* Optimizing natural hazard risk assessment: a showcase of how utilizing decision and risk analysis methods from other sectors can help improve natural hazard planning *Section: *Public Affairs *View Session Details:* https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/pa/papers/index.cgi?sessionid=83749 *Conveners:* Dina Abdel-Fattah (University of Alaska Fairbanks), Sarah Trainor (University of Alaska Fairbanks) Decision and risk analysis is an important component of natural hazard planning. With increasing uncertainty and new variables to consider given the role of climate change in natural hazards, optimizing our predictive capacity of these events is critical, to help alleviate and potentially prevent their impacts on life and property. The fields of computer science, logic, economics, and military science all have many decision and risk analyses and methods that can be adapted and applied to the natural hazards context. This session will look into how existing adaptions of decision and risk analyses from computer science, logic, and economics have been used in forest fire and flood management. This session will also look into how decision-making processes from other sectors can be adapted to help support natural hazards emergency management. Abstract submissions will be accepted until *Wednesday, 31 July at 23:59 EDT.* I hope to see you in San Francisco!
