Statistical consulting

The Statistical research group (Statistiska forskningsgruppen, SFG) at
the Department of Mathematics has for several years assisted graduate
students and researchers with statistical advice. This activity is a
Core facility at the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, which
means that graduate students and researchers are offered 20 hours per
year of statistical consultation free of charge.

The Institute for Solar Physics (ISP) announces the availability of data
from the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST). The data could be
existing data from our archive or new observations from the 2015 season
or later.

The ISP is a Swedish research infrastructure under the Research Council
(VR). The SST is therefore available to observers from Swedish
universities and research institutes. We offer help with formulating
observations programmes, with making the observations, and with data
processing.

To aid new potential observers and data users we will organize an
information meeting in Stockholm with the following subjects:

* The SST and its instrumentation.

* Standard data processing and science data products.

* Formulation of observations programmes.

* Existing data.

The exact date for the meeting will be decided together with those who
have responded to mats at astro.su.se before 2015-02-16. The meeting will
be scheduled to make it possible (for most of you) to participate
without staying the night. If you cannot attend the meeting but are
interested in observations in 2015, please let us know as soon as possible.

This announcement is open also for MSc students with an interest in
doing a thesis project based on solar data. If no suitable supervision
is available at the home university, it is possible to do the project at
Stockholm University with supervision from us. We can also offer travel
support and 1 hotel night for a few such MSc students who want to attend
this information meeting.

Etikseminarium för doktorander

Vi bjuder nu in till terminens seminarium för forskarstuderande om forskningsetik. Under tidigare seminarier har vi till vår stora glädje haft mycket livliga och intressanta diskussioner om viktiga etiska frågor. Vi hoppas så blir fallet även denna gång, trots att den som under ett antal år lett seminariet, Per Olof Hulth, nyligen gått bort efter en kort tids sjukdom.

Vi bjuder på lunch i samband med seminariet. Enligt fakultetsnämndens beslut är deltagande i seminariet obligatoriskt för alla forskarstuderande.

Terminens seminarium ges torsdag 7/5  kl. 9.15-14 i rum FB42 på AlbaNova. Seminariet ges på engelska och föreläsare och diskussionsledare är Lars Bergström och Kerstin Jon-And, Fysikum.

Som litteratur används häftet  "On being a Scientist" (A guide to responsible conduct in research) TREDJE utgåvan, från National Academy of Sciences, som fås utan kostnad för deltagarna.

Anmälan till Gorica Nikolic, studentexpeditionen, Fysikum, 08-55378650, Gorica.Nikolic at fysik.su.se. Sista anmälningsdag är 29 april. Var vänlig ange namn, institution och antagningsdatum för forskarstudier. Ange också eventuella speciella krav på lunchmaten.

Invitation to seminar for graduate students on ethics in research

We now invite graduate students to attend this semester's seminar on ethics in research. We have been very happy to have had lively and and interesting discussion on ethical issues during the earlier seminars. We hope this will be the case this time as well. Lunch will be served.

According to a decision by the Faculty Board, it is compulsory for all graduate students.

This semester's seminar takes place Thursday, May 7, 9.15-14 in room FB42 in AlbaNova.

The seminar is conducted in English and led by Professors Lars Bergström and Kerstin Jon-And, Physics Department. The seminar is based on the booklet "On being a Scientist" (A guide to responsible conduct in research) third edition, from National Academy of Sciences. This is provided without cost for the participants.

To take part in the seminar apply to Gorica Nikolic, student expedition, Physics Department, 08-55378650, Gorica.Nikolic at fysik.su.se. Deadline for application is April 29. Please, give name, institution and the date for admission to graduate studies. Lunch is included so please inform us about  possible food restrictions.

We will send you a copy of the booklet "On being a Scientist" well in advance of the seminar. You should study this booklet before the seminar and you are assumed to take active part in the seminar!

The number of participants is restricted to 25. If the seminar is overbooked then priority is given to those who apply first.

The university is full of researchers, teachers, post docs and doctoral candidates of non-Swedish origin trying to figure out how to navigate all the different rules and regulations that govern the Swedish labour market, social security, residence, health care, unemployment and pensions. If you are one of them – this seminar is for you!

How does the Swedish labour market work?

Måndagen den 27 april är det dags för årets alumnkväll på Fysikum, med middag och spännande föredrag om aktuell fysikforskning. Kom och träffa före detta och nuvarande studenter, anställda och doktorander!

Hi all and sorry for spam!

There is a furnished room for rent in Årsta, south of the city.
I'm leaving it 1st May after 1.5 happy years living there.
The apartment is on the six floor, so the room have a nice view of Globen.

The room is about 11kvm and it's very light.
Tenant have a separate toilet, and share the kitchen and the bathroom 
with the landlady who lives in the next room.
There is a big living room with TV and a balcony with nice view.
It is situated in a very calm and quiet area, close to nice nature.
ICA is in a walking distance.

The price for the room is 3000 SEK/month including all the charges 
(internet is included as well).

*Drygt 20 år i bibliotekets tjänst - en nyfiken bibliotekarie kommer långt*

Birgit Parding har arbetat som bibliotekarie på Stockholms 
universitetsbibliotek sedan 22 år tillbaka. Hon är innovativ och har 
gjort stora framsteg med att utveckla bibliotekets tidskriftshantering. 
Hon har också arbetat med administration av olika elektroniska resurser 
som databaser, e-tidsskrifter och e-böcker. Den 30 april i år går Birgit 
i pension och idag vill vi hedra henne och det betydande arbete hon har 
åstadkommit för biblioteket.

*Vad är dina bästa råd till kollegorna som du lämnar kvar?*

– Se till att du alltid är nyfiken. Under mina år har mitt yrke 
förändrats enormt. Självklart är det skillnad på att arbeta på ett 
vetenskapligt bibliotek idag jämfört med förr när jag började på SUB och 
allt fanns i tryckt form. Idag finns mycket bra möjligheter att länka 
ihop en referens med en artikel eller bok i fulltext med hjälp av en 
länkserver. Ett kraftfullt verktyg men som kräver en hel del 
administration. För att något är i elektronisk form så upphör inte 
arbetet med att få resurserna att fungera som tänkt. Men en fördel med 
elektroniska resurser, exempelvis e-tidskrifters användning, är att det 
är möjligt att utvärdera användningen.

Jag har varit med om en fantastisk teknisk utveckling som jag följt med 
spänning. Jag har lärt mig otroligt mycket sedan datorer kom in i mitt 
liv. Du behöver inte ha intresse för just tekniska system - det kan vara

Subject: [Drand] Tutorial on the version control system Git

Dear all,

The PhD-council is inviting all interested to attend a set of two 
tutorials on an
extremely powerful and easy-to-use version control system called *Git*.

To name two benefits of using Git:
- It is an ideal tool for the development of joint projects, such as 
source code for
programs or writing papers.

- You get an efficient book keeping of your project, where you can 
access any
version of the project at any time without having to save multiple 
files/folders.

The speaker, Guus Sliepen from Solar physics, will give his two excellent
tutorials from earlier this year. From personal experience I strongly 
recommend
anyone interested in learning Git to attend them - I have benefited a lot!

Each of the tutorials is about 2 hours with 50% hands-on-experience.
The dates and times are:

1. Thursday 28/5*, *13.00-15.00
*In this session Guus gives a basic introduction to version control and 
you will get
acquainted with Git by learning the basic commands. No prior experience
is needed.

*2. Thursday* *4/6, 13.00-15.00
*In this session you will try the slightly more advanced commands where you
synchronize work with other people. It is recommended that you have either
attended the first tutorial or have experience in using Git for a local 
project
on your computer.

We at FysikShow (check out our website<http://www.fysik.su.se/skolor_allmanhet/fysikshow/> if you haven't heard of us) are looking for new members for next academic year. We are looking for people that are interested in making a difference in science outreach, are passionate about physics and want to have fun while getting teaching hours.

We visit schools all over Stockholm and show kids of all ages experiments and talk about what it is like to study physics and our research.

A working knowledge of swedish and a driver's license is desirable but not a requirement. Hello,

 

1 pm on Tuesday June 16 we will have an informal meeting where we can
discuss what went well and less well during the academic year that is about
to end.

 

Room will be announced later.

 

I would like at the same time to inform you about the status of my planning
for the next academic year. Normally I would be about ready now and start to
have individual discussions with each teaching assistant about his or her
tasks.

 

This year I am late! This is to some extent related to the fact that the
several new year 2 courses of the new program are not defined in detail yet,
which makes it hard to plan the assistant tasks. Furthermore, I will now be
away for a week. When I come back I will finish this work as soon as
possible and then make a doodle offering slots during the weeks over summer
where I will be present.

 

To those of you who did not teach last year but have applied to do so this
year I am not yet far enough in the process to give you any useful
indication, but it will come at latest the week after midsummer.

You who receive this message had (or applied without getting) assistantship
(teaching or other) last year, but have not applied this year.

 

Some time ago I sent out requests for you to hand in applications for
assistantship for the coming academic year. I sent that to the PhD student
list ‘drand at fysik.su.se’ but I now realize now that not everyone is on that.

 

I got in many requests but not from you. I do realize that some of you are
close to the finish line of your PhD and therefore perhaps do not plan to
teach anymore. On the other hand this does not go for all of you. 

 

I therefore ask you to hand in an application or alternatively to inform me
that you do not want assistantship next year.

This is a reminder for tomorrw's meeting on being a teaching assistant, (agenda attached). The purpose of this informal meeting is to discuss what went well and less well the past year with respect to your teaching assignments. The meeting will take place in room FB54 starting at 13:00 (sharp).

Please note that the topics of discussion are intended to be very open and essentially governed by you, the teaching assistants. Please also consider that even if you did not have any particular problem(s) yourself, your opinion and input are valuable components in the discussions.

1 pm on Tuesday June 16 we will have an informal meeting where we can discuss what went well and less well during the academic year that is about to end.

Room will be announced later.

I would like at the same time to inform you about the status of my planning for the next academic year. Normally I would be about ready now and start to have individual discussions with each teaching assistant about his or her tasks.

This year I am late! This is to some extent related to the fact that the several new year 2 courses of the new program are not defined in detail yet, which makes it hard to plan the assistant tasks. Furthermore, I will now be away for a week. When I come back I will finish this work as soon as possible and then make a doodle offering slots during the weeks over summer where I will be present.

To those of you who did not teach last year but have applied to do so this year I am not yet far enough in the process to give you any useful indication, but it will come at latest the week after midsummer.

*Internationell postdoc*

Internationell postdok kan sökas av dig som enskild forskare med svensk 
doktorsexamen eller examen från European University Institute (EUI). För 
att kunna söka internationell postdok får din examen inte vara äldre än 
två år vid sista ansökningsdag. Bidragstiden är 18--36 månader. Minst 
två tredjedelar av bidragstiden ska tillbringas utomlands. Denna tid kan 
dock delas upp i flera kortare perioder. Vistelsen kan påbörjas under 
den halva av året som infaller direkt efter att bidraget har börjat

  Konferensbidrag

Syftet med bidraget är att främja internationellt forskningssamarbete 
och erfarenhetsutbyte. Konferensbidrag är ett sätt att ge forskare 
verksamma i Sverige möjlighet att anordna en konferens med 
internationellt erkända föredragshållare.

Konferensen ska:

vända sig till forskarsamhället;

anordnas i Sverige;

vara av mellanstorlek, med ett deltagande på 50-200 personer;

äga rum 5-12 månader efter sista ansökningsdag.

KVA utlyser bidrag inom fysik

1)      Generell kungörelse för Fysik

  Nästa utlysning öppnar i oktober 2015. Sista ansökningsdag: 31 januari 2016. Till doktorander utdelas stipendier med ett maxbelopp på 100,000 kronor och till forskare som avlagt doktorsexamen utdelas forskningsanslag med ett maxbelopp på 300,000 kronor. Bland de senare prioriteras de som disputerat de senaste fem åren. Anslag utgår högst 1 år.

  Inom fysik kan medel också sökas från de särskilda stiftelser, och post doc-stipendier som listas under rubriken Dokument till höger på webbsidan som nås via länken nedan:

2)      Post doc till Japan. Nästa utlysning öppnar i slutet av 2015.

3)      Stiftelsen P E Lindahls stipendiefond. Sista ansökningsdag: 31 augusti 2015.

Etikseminarium för doktorander

Vi bjuder nu in till terminens seminarium för forskarstuderande om forskningsetik. Under tidigare seminarier har vi till vår stora glädje haft mycket livliga och intressanta diskussioner om viktiga etiska frågor. Vi hoppas så blir fallet även denna gång.

Vi bjuder på lunch i samband med seminariet.

Enligt fakultetsnämndens beslut är deltagande i seminariet obligatoriskt för alla forskarstuderande.

Terminens seminarium ges tisdag 20/10  kl. 9.15-14 i rum FB53 på AlbaNova.

Seminariet ges på engelska och föreläsare och diskussionsledare är Lars Bergström och Kerstin Jon-And, Fysikum.

Som litteratur används häftet  "On being a Scientist" (A guide to responsible conduct in research) TREDJE utgåvan, från National Academy of Sciences, som fås utan kostnad för deltagarna.

Invitation to seminar for graduate students on ethics in research

We now invite graduate students to attend this semester's seminar on ethics in research. We have been very happy to have had lively and and interesting discussion on ethical issues during the earlier seminars. We hope this will be the case this time as well. Lunch will be served.

According to a decision by the Faculty Board, it is compulsory for all graduate students.

This semester's seminar takes place Tuesday, October 20, 9.15-14 in room FB53 in AlbaNova.

The seminar is conducted in English and led by Professors Lars Bergström and Kerstin Jon-And, Physics Department.

The seminar is based on the booklet "On being a Scientist" (A guide to responsible conduct in research) third edition, from National Academy of Sciences. This is provided without cost for the participants.

To take part in the seminar apply to Gorica Nikolic, student expedition, Physics Department, 08-55378650, Gorica.Nikolic at fysik.su.se. Deadline for application is Oct 12. Please, give name, institution and the date for admission to graduate studies. Lunch is included so please inform us about  possible food restrictions.

We will send you a copy of the booklet "On being a Scientist" well in advance of the seminar. You should study this booklet before the seminar and you are assumed to take active part in the seminar!

The number of participants is restricted to 25. If the seminar is overbooked then priority is given to those who apply first.

Härmed kungörs ett eller flera stipendier å sammanlagt 250 000 kr ur 
Selma Andersons stiftelse.

Stipendium utdelas till " kvinna som är doktorand eller tagit 
doktorsexamen vid något av landets universitet samt visat vetenskaplig 
begåvning. Utdelas för utgivande av vetenskapligt arbete, undersökning 
eller resa." Stipendium utdelas också "till kvinna, vilken vid någon av 
ovannämnda läroanstalter är antagen till forskarutbildningen och visat 
verklig vetenskaplig begåvning, som understöd för arbete med 
doktorsavhandling."

Abstract: Everything you always wanted to know about magnetism, but were afraid to ask

What is magnetism? Why do magnets attract or repel each other, and why do they stick to some materials but not others? And why did Richard Feynman once tell a journalist: "I am not going to be able to give you an answer to why magnets attract each other"?  In this talk, I will attempt to give a hint of an answer to these fundamental questions to physics students and alumni that have a basic understanding of the laws of physics. We will go through a few everyday examples of magnetism, and we will see how the description of very familiar phenomena can very quickly turn into a discussion of fundamental physical concepts. We will try to debunk some of the myths of magnetism that naturally arise when "invisible" forces seem to be involved. Finally, I will give a taste of what the modern research in magnetism is about, and what is the fundamental problem in magnetism that scientists are currently tackling.

Hej doktorander!


Onsdagen den 30 september kl 10:15-12 i sal FD5 är det schemalagt ett infomöte om fysikinriktningen för kandidatstudenterna. Jag har tagit på mig att arrangera detta men skulle behöva hjälp av några av er doktorander som kan tänka sig att komma och berätta lite om sin forskning, sin forskargrupp och kanske om hur man upplever arbetet som doktorand. Det är bra om vi får spridning mellan forskningsområdena, så jag vill gärna få med doktorander ur olika grupper.


Hör av dig till mig så snart som möjligt om du kan tänka dig att ställa upp! Jag tänker att ca 10 minuter är lagom för en presentation.

Abstract: Everything you always wanted to know about magnetism, but were afraid to ask

What is magnetism? Why do magnets attract or repel each other, and why do they stick to some materials but not others? And why did Richard Feynman once tell a journalist: "I am not going to be able to give you an answer to why magnets attract each other"?  In this talk, I will attempt to give a hint of an answer to these fundamental questions to physics students and alumni that have a basic understanding of the laws of physics. We will go through a few everyday examples of magnetism, and we will see how the description of very familiar phenomena can very quickly turn into a discussion of fundamental physical concepts. We will try to debunk some of the myths of magnetism that naturally arise when "invisible" forces seem to be involved. Finally, I will give a taste of what the modern research in magnetism is about, and what is the fundamental problem in magnetism that scientists are currently tackling.

Hello PhD students!

We from the Fysikum PhD council want to invite all PhD students to go out for an after work drink next Wednesday (30.09.). Since a lot of new PhDs recently started it would be a good opportunity to get to know each other and meet people from other groups at Fysikum.

We will meet at 18.00 outside the Albanova main entrance (at the statue) and then walk together to the Flying Horse, on Odengatan 44. Please let me know if you want to come, so I get a rough overview of how many we will be. Also tell others who might not be in the email list yet!

First of all thanks for coming last Wednesday to the Flying Horse... it

The university is full of researchers, teachers, post docs and doctoral candidates of non-Swedish origin trying to figure out how to navigate all the different rules and regulations that govern the Swedish labour market, social security, residence, health care, unemployment and pensions. If you are one of them - this seminar is for you!

Time: October 14 at 13.00-15.00
Place: William-Olssonsalen, plan 1, hus Y, Svante Arrhenius väg 14.
The seminar will address questions like:

How does the Swedish labour market work?
What are the three government agencies that "rule your world"?
Who needs a residence permit?
How does the social security system work?
Can I use the health care system?
Do I have the right to unemployment benefit?
Are only Swedish citizens entitled to Swedish pensions?

The seminar is held by Åsa Rybo Landelius.

Dear all,

In the fall we will start a reading course in supersymmetry mainly intended for PhD students in particle theory but in principle open for anyone. We will meet once per week for two hours and the content of these meetings will probably consist of discussing a chapter in the course book that everyone has read beforehand and/or solving and discussing exercises and problems (we will decide on the format at the first meeting). The course will be handled by the participants themselves and each participant will be responsible for leading the discussion one or several meetings (i.e. there will not be any lectures as in a usual course).

Course book: Supersymmetry in Particle Physics, An Elementary Introduction by Ian Aitchison
This book is available as an e-book through the university library (link: http://libris.kb.se/bib/13045002 )
We will essentially go through the book from start to finish.

Suggested prerequisites: a course in quantum field theory

First meeting: October 29, 13.15 in A5:0019 (one of the group rooms in the CoPS corridor).
During this meeting we will mainly discuss the format of the course.

We will continue for approximately 15 meetings, which means that we will be done in the middle of the spring semester (first half of March). The preliminary plan is to meet Thursdays after lunch (13-15).

It should be possible to get credits (hp) for this course - as far as I understand this is in principle up to your supervisor to decide.

Enligt både dokumenterade (t ex Doktorandenkäten 2012/13) och odokumenterade källor verkar det finnas ett uppdämt behov av mer information om om forskarstuderandes karriärmöjligheter utanför akademin. Samverkansavdelningen planerar därför att som en del i sin serie av interna inspirationsseminarier arrangera en workshop för att generera nya idéer för hur universitetet kan stödja doktorander i sina karriärval. Vi hoppas att vi efter två timmar har några konkreta förslag på aktiviteter klara att testas!
OBS att målgruppen för denna workshop är personal som på något sätt arbetar med eller intresserar sig för karriärvägledning för doktorander. Det  är alltså inte ett "vanligt" karriärseminarium - däremot kan det säkert bli en följd av workshopen i nästa skede.

Dear all

you receive this email since you are a PhD student at Fysikum and we think you should really read this invitation.

Many of you have already realised that the work of a scientist does not stop in the lab or in front of the computer, but includes even a lot of work for communicating with other scientists, as well as to the general public through outreach events or the media. This skill is also part of the general qualifications for the degree of doctor, decided by the Swedish parliament (from "Högskoleförordningen": “for getting the title of PhD the student should demonstrate the ability to present and discuss research and research results with authority, both in national and international contexts, orally and in writing, in dialog with the scholar community and society in general").
As part of your training we have decided to organise a workshop on the theme of science communication that we really hope you decide to attend.
The workshop, which will be held in English,  is obviously free of charge, and open to all of you, and it takes place at AlbaNova on January 14 at 13:00 -17:00

The program is not completely finalised yet, but it will include a lot of interesting topics such as storytelling, the rhetorical toolbox, presentation techniques and so on.

We invite you to register to the workshop by entering your name in this doodle. We are going to provide coffee with buns, so please add a comment in case you have allergies or dietary restrictions, so we can take care of that.

Dear all,


the Fysikum PhD council will organize a Christmas get-together for all PhDs at the department, on the 10th of December at 18.00. We will provide snacks and soft drinks and there will be beer and such for a small fee. We could also order pizza or so if enough people are interested.


It will take place at Albanova and the room will be announced later, if we know roughly how many people want to come. So please send me an email if you are interested.


We hope to see many of you there!

utlysningar av forskningsmedel och bidrag.

*Wenner-Gren Stiftelserna utlyser särskilda stipendier för postdoktoral 
utbildning ("Wenner-Gren Fellows") *

Obs! Från och med 2016 kan unga forskare *inom alla ämnesområden* ansöka 
om dessa stipendier. Stipendierna skall ge unga forskare möjlighet att 
erhålla kvalificerad postdoktoral utbildning utomlands samt att därefter 
bedriva forskningsverksamhet i Sverige. Avsikten är att utannonsera 5 
stipendier varje år.

*Omfattning*

*a. *Stipendietiden omfattar högst 3 år. Minst ett år skall tillbringas 
vid utländsk institution och högst ett år får tillbringas vid svensk 
institution efter hemkomsten.
*b.* Stipendiat har möjlighet att efter stipendietidens utgång söka 
anslag för lön som forskare under två år för arbete vid svensk institution.

Stipendierna blir tillgängliga från 1 juli det året de söks.

*Behörighet att söka:***Svensk medborgare, eller utländsk medborgare med 
permanent uppehållstillstånd i Sverige. Doktorsexamen får inte vara 
avlagd tidigare än tre år före ansökningstillfället (det får inte ha 
gått mer än tre år mellan disputation och ansökningstillfälle) och 
senast den 30 juni under ansökningsåret.

Many of you have already realised that the work of a scientist does not stop in the lab or in front of the computer, but includes even a lot of work for communicating with other scientists, as well as to the general public through outreach events or the media. This skill is also part of the general qualifications for the degree of doctor, decided by the Swedish parliament (from "Högskoleförordningen": “for getting the title of PhD the student should demonstrate the ability to present and discuss research and research results with authority, both in national and international contexts, orally and in writing, in dialog with the scholar community and society in general").
As part of your training we have decided to organise a workshop on the theme of science communication that we really hope you decide to attend.
The workshop, which will be held in English,  is obviously free of charge, and open to all of you, and it takes place at AlbaNova on January 14 at 13:00 -17:00

The program is not completely finalised yet, but it will include a lot of interesting topics such as storytelling, the rhetorical toolbox, presentation techniques and so on.

Dear supervisors and PhD students,

the department board decided yesterday that I should share the status 
regarding individual study plans (ISP) and the status regarding 
licentiate seminars with all of you.

In the attached document you will find a table with this information for 
all PhD students with some activity during 2015. Note that this is based 
on the information that I had on December 17th. If you note some 
mistakes here, please inform me.

Let me try to explain the content:

In column 5, "months of full-time PhD studies", you find the effective 
number of study months from the starting date. Teaching is accounted 
for. However, e.g. sick-leaves are not taken into account here. As you 
know, a complete PhD in Sweden corresponds to 4 years or 48 months of 
full-time studies.

In column 6, the status of licentiate seminars is given. The licentiate 
seminar is used as the 50% check of the PhD studies, i.e. it should be 
done at around two years of full-time studies. "LATE" means that two 
years have passed since the start, without a licentiate seminar.

In column 7 and 8, the ISP status is given. A "LATE" in column 8 means 
that one year has passed since the latest ISP was done, or that 3 months 
have passed since the starting date.

_Actions to be taken_

Lic-seminars: For students with a "LATE" mark I would like the 
corresponding supervisor to explain the situation to me (via email is OK 
as a start).

ISP: With a "LATE" mark, hopefully the ISP is well under way. If not - 
as a supervisor you have to start with it now. Note that according to 
the regulations it has to be updated every 12 months and its update is a 
prerequisite for a prolonged employment. Note also that some ISPs will 
pass the deadline very soon.

Subject: [Drand] Prolonged waiting time for visa

The PhD council board has received information about visa in Sweden that might be of interest for you. The waiting time to receive or prolong a visa for guest researchers in Sweden is currently prolonged to 6 months due to the heavy working load of the Swedish Migration Agency. I hope that none of you will be affected by this, but please make sure to check the status of your visa and contact Stockholm University's contact person with the Swedish Migration Agency in case of questions:
