Vi har drivit denna forskarskola i ca 30 år med stöd av fakulteten och alla sektioner deltar med handledare. Dessa handledare är doktorander som själva får designa sina projekt för eleverna med utgångspunkt i deras egen forskning. Totalt för alla delar deltar ca 126 elever ( ca 800-900 sökande varje år) ifrån ett 30 tal gymnasieskolor i Sthlms län . Fysik har under åren deltagit med ung. 2-4 handledare per år vilket ger ca 12-20 elever med den äran. Mkt nöjda elever. Och det får genomslag för deras senare val av studier i många fall ( jag träffar många “gamla” elever ett par år efteråt här på SU samt LADOK sökning visar även på detta). Handledaren får 9700 SEK för jobbet samt gruppen 1000 SEK i materialkostnader, "Michaels kommentar: Eller alternativt kan man få tidsförlängning" Nu börjar det dock bli allt svårare att få tag på handledare hos er- delvis för att jag själv befinner mig på biokemisk “mark” och har lite kontakt med fysikerna. Därför undrar jag om ni kan hjälpa mig eller ge mig tips om hur jag ska lösa detta då det vore mkt synd att förlora fysikens deltagande i forskarskolan. We at Fysikshow (check out our website if you haven't heard of us) are looking for people that are interested in making a difference in science outreach, are passionate about physics and want to have fun while getting teaching hours. We still need one or two if someone is interested. I got a question regarding what your obligations are as supervisor. Here I explain a bit more, especially for those of you who are not from Sweden and have not done PRAO yourself in school. I also include all Phd in this email and not only the assistants. If you know PostDocs that can be interested to help out, please forward this email. Most students in Sweden do a kind of internship (PRAO) when they are 8-9th grade (14-15 years old). Some high schools have similar things for older students as well. The purpose of the program is to  introduce the students to real-life working environments and normally they do it at companies, restaurants and so on, but they can also do it at a University and we get a few request every year. The students are supposed to do some simple real work, but at Fysikum it can be diffcult to come up with such assignments (but not impossible). Instead we can give them assignments that are similar to what we do as a researacher or teacher, for example working with a simple simulation program. Here is a few examples of what you can do. - Let them help you with simple measurements, cleaning or tests in the lab. Perhaps something that you normally do not have the time for. - Introduce them to your research and let them work with a simulations program where the physics is connected you your own research. - Assist you in student labs or if you are involved in Fysikshow och Holywoodfysik. - Take part in preparations for labs, Fysikshow och Holywoodfysik (maybe you are preparing for the project course starting soon?). -Take the opportunity to test something  in one of your student labs that normally you do not have the time for. If they help you with your normal work you get 4 hours per day accounted for in your assistant plan to compensate for that your normal work pace might be slower and you give them some introduction to your research. If you need to make preparations or spend more than four hours supervising them you can get more time if you discuss it with me. First of all you need to find it interesting to work with younger students. Even if they are younger that what you normally meet in your teaching it can improve your skills a teacher and it will most likely be a good experience. I have a specific task this time that someone might be interested in. I have an idea to make an archive of short films of the students labs that can be a good help for new assistants on a course. In order to see if it is a good idea I would like to see such a short film. Anyone that is interested to make a film together with the PRAO students next week for a day? Let me know if you are interested to supervise two PRAO students for a day or two next week, thanks. It was decided that this information should be spread to the "kollegium" and to all PhD students, together with the rules connected to this. _Rules:_ For PhD students already in the system, the ISP has to be revised/updated once every 12 months, i.e. there has to be an ISP updated in 2017! If this is not done, the employment may be stopped. Without a valid ISP there will be no salary raise connected to the 50% or 80% achievements of the studies. For new PhD students, we require a first ISP to be handed in within 3 months of the start date. _Attached list:_ The list is updated since the board meeting according to my present knowledge (still there may be mistakes, or revised ISPs that I do not know of yet). The list contains all PhD students without a valid ISP, i.e. either more than 12 months old, or no ISP at all. _Action:_ Supervisors: For all these cases immediate action is needed. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to see to that this is done! PhD students: Please talk to your supervisor or come to me if the process is not started. Så också 2018, dagen äger rum 14/2 i William Olsson-salen i Geovetenskapens hus, se  bifogat schema. (Presentationerna är på svenska, det går bra att ställa frågor på engelska.
