Dear all,

Apparently there is a lag between course registration (which is now automatic for all new participants with thesis subject Theoretical physics or Physics) and access to the Athena course page. But no need to worry. I will follow up. Please, only mail me about this problem if it still remains on Monday at 5 pm.

In the meantime, course participants read below, and apologies to all others for the spam.

Best,
Bo

Recommendation for course participants:

Make sure you have access to generally Athena and that you are familiar with the notification options, including a mobile app, if you like. There are actually two different settings pages to fill in.

Except for these initial mails, all course information and correspondence should be through Athena. You are responsible for keeping track.

The Athena page is very basic, and some things are still missing, but I think it should be functional. I hope you will like the the Athena page, the modules and the colloquia.

Welcome to the course and its Athena page!

Bo

The plan for colloquium 36 by Marc Kamionkowski is now available.

Input on the scheduling for the pre-colloquium meeting and the debriefing can be given through thes polls:

Pre-colloqiuum meeting: http://whenisgood.net/hbtqixt
Debrief meeting: https://whenisgood.net/yifibes

Both polls close at *5.00pm Monday 9th November*, and the selected times are announced in the evening the same day.

Dear all,

Information on the Colloquia in Physics course<https://www.fysik.su.se/english/education/courses-programmes/course-information/doctoral-courses?kurs=FK40001> has been scant recently. Here I’ll try to make amends:

For new PhD students:

The course aims to broaden the PhD education beyond what you get in your research topic and in other courses. It is mandatory for the Physics and the Theoretical Physics PhD degree. Steps are underway to make registration automatic for these PhD students, but this is not yet implemented. Stay tuned.

For all interested PhD students, new and old:

On Nov 12, Marc Kamionkowski’s colloquium<https://indico.fysik.su.se/event/7120/> will be a part of the course. Some days in advance the new course page on Athena will be online and and a a pre-colloquium meeting hosted by David Marsh will be announced as a first part of a colloquium module around Kamionkowski’s colloquium. The abstract is not yet published, but it looks really interesting!

There will be more details about the course for new participants, which should allow everyone who wants to start with the above module to do so. (For newcomers: You complete the course by passing ten colloquium modules, but you do not have to take all modules that are offered.)

Exactly how these first announcements will be made depends on how the upgrade of the registration process and a revision of the course roster proceeds. If specific methods become too cumbersome, I’ll have to spam this drand at fysik.su.se<mailto:drand at fysik.su.se> address. At least, everyone who is obliged to take the course should be reached. If you haven’t heard anything before Monday, Nov 9, something has gone wrong. Then contact me! (Otherwise, you should only need to mail me under special circumstances.)

In the meantime, if you haven’t used the Athena<https://athena.itslearning.com/?LanguageId=1> platform, I recommend you acquaint yourself with it. If you cannot log in with a university account, or don’t yet have one, contact the study administration.

For PhD students that are already participating

We are not supposed to use the old mondo site, although the information there is still accessible, and I have backed up most of it and all essentials. That our standard communication channel has been blocked is one of the reasons for my radio silence. I also wanted to have something concrete to tell you.

For everyone

Welcome to colloquia whether you take the course or not!

Bo
