The Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM) has by
now over 30 years of tradition and is considered to be the leading
conference for the community working on Stringology. The objective of
the annual CPM meetings is to provide an international forum for
research in combinatorial pattern matching and related applications
such as computational biology, data compression and data mining,
coding, information retrieval, natural language processing, and
pattern recognition. The conference will be preceded by a student
summer school on July 4, 2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the conference will be run in a hybrid
mode: online over Zoom and offline in Wrocław, both with NO

University of Gothenburg is part of the newly started national program for data-driven life science (DDLS<https://www.scilifelab.se/data-driven/>). This 12-year initiative is funded with SEK 3.1 billion from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and is hosted by SciLifeLab. The purpose of the program is to train the next generation scientists of life science, to create a strong computational and data science base, and to strengthen the competencies in today’s research society within data driven life sciences. Sorry for disturbing you.

We have a number of extremely good positions in Sweden with deadlines in
the fall. They are tenure track and funded by a new initiative by the
Wallenberg foundation with approximately $2M in startup funding. Additional
funding will be available to apply for. The main rule is that you have to
be within 5 years from your PhD (with additional time allowed for parental
leave, military service etc). In total there are 20 positions, with
approximately 5 of these relevant to our community (the others are in
Precision medicine, evolution and biodiversity, epidemiology and infection
biology)

The title of all position is "Assistant professor in data-driven cell and
molecular biology", but a slight variation on the descriptions exist (but
in principle, you could apply for all (although obviously the best in

The Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM) has by
now over 30 years of tradition and is considered to be the leading
conference for the community working on Stringology. The objective of
the annual CPM meetings is to provide an international forum for
research in combinatorial pattern matching and related applications
such as computational biology, data compression and data mining,
coding, information retrieval, natural language processing, and
pattern recognition. The conference will be preceded by a student
summer school on July 4, 2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the conference will be run in a hybrid
mode: online over Zoom and offline in Wrocław, both with NO
participation fees. Please register here:

Please register early, this will allow us to handle your registration in a smooth way
(registration allows you to participate in the summer school as well).

At the moment, citizens/residents of EU/EFTA countries and UK/Ireland
can freely enter Poland, and citizens/residents of Japan, Canada,
South Korea, Australia, Israel are allowed to enter by air. There is
no quarantine with vaccine certificate or negative test (antigen or
RT-PCR, before or after arrival). The exact rules are complicated and
keep changing, so we strongly advise verifying them on your own.

Dear all,

I’m recruiting a Postdoc (2 years) to work on evolutionary genomics of neotropical Drosophila and their endosymbiotic bacterium Wolbachia. The overall aim of our research is to study how symbiotic interactions between bacteria and animal hosts affect both partners’ genetic material and evolution.   

The candidate should have a PhD in bioinformatics, molecular biology or other relevant areas obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Previous experience of working with NGS data and bioinformatic analyses, familiarity with Linux and a scripting language such as Python, Perl or R is necessary. Previous experience of de novo genome assemblies and comparative genomics is highly desirable. The applicant must have a good ability to work independently as well as in a group. Excellent written and oral knowledge of English is required, as the work takes place in an international environment.
