In the project, we are using metabarcoding of thousands of Malaise trap and soil samples to characterize the insect faunas of Sweden and Madagascar, and their associated microbiomes. We expect one of the postdocs to apply joint species distribution modelling to analyze the spatial and temporal drivers of species distributions and community patterns. This knowledge will then be used to develop recommendations for future genetically based monitoring of insect faunas. This postdoc should have a strong background in applied statistics and quantitative ecology. We expect the other postdoc to focus on the phenology, composition and distribution of insect communities, and then relate community structure to ecosystem functions measured at the sampled localities. These analyses will allow us to address long-standing questions in community ecology using a much broader sample of insect diversity than has been available before. The candidate aiming for this position should have a strong background in quantitative community ecology. The Insect Biome Atlas Project is a collaboration between the Swedish Museum of Natural History (Fredrik Ronquist), the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Tomas Roslin), Stockholm University (Ayco Tack), SciLifeLab/KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Anders Andersson), the Madagascar Biodiversity Centre (Brian Fisher, California Academy of Sciences) and Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland (Piotr Lukasik). Beyond this team, the postdocs will be supported by a project coordinator (Andreia Miraldo) and bioinformatics support staff. Application deadline is September 22.
