Subject: [Okc-wp4] EO meeting Thu June 11 @ 13:15 via Zoom and Informal get-together
Dear colleagues,
our next EO meeting will take place this Thursday Jun 11 at 13:15 via Zoom.
https://stockholmuniversity.zoom.us/j/64051046387 and more details below.
This week Nihil Sarin from Monash University will present us
Title: Observational consequences of binary neutron star merger remnants.
Abstract: The first neutron star merger observed with gravitational waves and in
electromagnetic radiation confirmed that binary neutron star mergers are the
progenitors of at least some short gamma-ray bursts. The multi-messenger
observations have been used to a probe a lot of fundamental physics, however,
despite the wealth of observations the fate of the remnant of GW170817 is still
uncertain. I will give an overview of binary neutron star mergers focussing on the
nature of the remnant from observations of short gamma-ray bursts and theoretical
considerations. I will discuss the implications of these observations on the nuclear
equation of state, neutron star dynamics and gamma-ray bursts.
After Nihil's talk we will have an informal get-together:
- brief summary of the VR-funded research environment
"Gravitational Radiation and Electromagnetic Astrophysical Transients (GREAT)"
by Ariel Goobar (PI)
- short, 2-slide introductions where researchers (especially new ones)
can say a few words about themselves and their research interests
If you plan to present two such slides, please send Stephan Rosswog
a short note so he can try to accommodate everyone's presentations.
Thank you!
Andre da Silva Schneider is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
