Title: The power of extragalactic jets

Abstract: In recent years, advancements in theoretical understanding and numerical modelling of relativistic jets have resulted in a number of predictions concerning parameters of the jet ejection process. Many of them build upon our knowledge of the total power carried by the jet which, however, is not a quantity that is straightforward to measure. Traditionally, it has been common to estimate the jet power using energy content of radio lobes in which the jet energy is dissipated (Rawlings & Saunders 1991). Today, due to progress in observational techniques and theoretical models, several other methods are available. Unfortunately, depending on the parameters and assumptions used, these methods can provide widely different estimations for a given source. I will review several methods currently available for jet power estimation and, using data available in the literature, present similarities and differences between their results, along with possible explanations for the discrepancies found.
