Dear all,
Reminder of talk today at 1315 by Anamaria Gkini.
Title: Eruptive mass loss prior to superluminous supernovae
Abstract: The fate of stars and the type of the resulting supernova (SN) explosions are closely linked to their final years before core collapse. During the late stages of stellar evolution, stars can lose a significant amount of their initial mass through eruptive mass loss, leading to the formation of circumstellar material (CSM) around the SN, which may be observable post-explosion. In this talk, I will focus on superluminous supernovae (SLSNe), a specific type of explosion that is exceptionally bright and cannot be explained by conventional power sources. In particular, I will present two SLSNe that display spectroscopic signatures indicative of line scattering from a rapidly expanding CSM that was ejected shortly before the explosion. First, I will provide a detailed analysis of the photometric properties and evolution of these two SLSNe, placing them in the context of other well-studied SLSNe. Next, I will focus on the modeling of the spectroscopic lines to infer the properties of the CSM and the timing of its ejection. Finally, I will discuss potential mass-loss mechanisms and sources that power these SLSNe. The discovery of these objects offers valuable insights into the late stages of stellar evolution and enhances our understanding of SLSN progenitors.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Smaranika (On behalf of organisers)

Dear all,
Reminder of meeting today (Unusual schedule of consecutive weeks)
We have next OKC EO seminar in A5:1003 at 13:15 by Takashi Nagao from U. of Turku.
Title:
Observational diversity in interacting supernovae and diversity in their circumstellar material
Abstract:
Recent observations have revealed the presence of a substantial amount of circumstellar material (CSM) in various types of supernovae (SNe), which suggests the occurrence of some unknown extensive mass ejections just before the explosions. Different observational properties of such interacting SNe should originate from different properties of their SN ejecta and CSM. It is important to clarify the properties of their SN ejecta and CSM for each type of interacting SNe, in order to understand their progenitors and mass-loss mechanisms. In this talk, I present the photometric, spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the bright long-lived Type II SN 2021irp, and demonstrate that this SN is powered by interaction with disk-shape CSM. By comparing the observational properties with the Type Ia-CSM SN 2020uem, which is also powered by interaction with similar disk-shape CSM, I clarify the role of the SN ejecta properties in the observational properties of interacting SNe. At the same time, I discuss possible relations of SN2021irp with other interacting SNe. I also present observations of 21irp-like SNe, and discuss the diversity in their CSM, as well as their possible progenitors and mass-loss mechanisms.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Smaranika (On behalf of organisers)
