Warwick Systems Biology Centre is a partner in a number of large scale
collaborative systems biology projects. These include a study of global
metabolic switching in Streptomyces coelicolor, funded through the
European transnational funding and research initiative SYSMO and a 5M
BBSRC SABR award to the Universities of Warwick, Exeter and Essex,
which will develop models of how plants cope with environmental stress.
We seek qualified candidates to contribute to the provision of
bioinformatics support for these and other projects in the Centre.
Senior Bioinformatics Engineer: Data Integration
You will develop a strong profile for WSB in data and methods
integration by implementing a core computational infrastructure,
including databases for multi-omic data types, and techniques, workflows
and data standards for linking disparate data types and modelling
software. You will be responsible for providing bioinformatics support
for ongoing collaborative projects, as well as line managing a related
junior bioinformatics post. You will also act as WSBs representative on
the European SYSMO Data Management Group.
You should have a PhD in Bioinformatics or Computer Science or a Masters
degree with relevant experience. Experience in relational database
development in a UNIX environment (including languages such as Perl, XML
and SQL) and software engineering are essential. Previous experience of
working in a multidisciplinary environment, and managing a computational
infrastructure for a biological research group is desirable. You should
be keen to interact with biologists and willing to undertake travel to
our collaborators in Europe (Norway, Germany, Netherlands).
This is a permanent post.
