Postdoctoral researcher

A postdoctoral position (for 2-3 years) is available in Bioinformatics 
laboratory (www.ibt.lt/bioinformatics/) headed by Dr. Ceslovas Venclovas 
at the Institute of Biotechnology, Vilnius. Bioinformatics laboratory is 
involved in computational studies of protein sequence, structure and 
function. There are two broad research directions: methods development 
and application of computational methods to specific biological 
problems. In the area of methods development the focus is on distant 
homology detection, comparative modeling of proteins and protein 
complexes and assessment of protein 3D structure. Computational studies 
of specific biological problems although protein-structure oriented, 
utilize many other available types of biological data.

The successful applicant holding PhD in Bioinformatics or related field 
will work in one of these general research areas. Accordingly, an 
applicant is expected to have either of the following qualifications: 1) 
excellent skills in programming and data 
analysis/manipulation/management; an interest in molecular biology and 
at least some previous experience with biological data; 2) expertise in 
protein sequence and structure analysis, structural modeling of 
proteins/protein complexes, familiarity with the genome sequence 
analysis. The specific project will be defined based on laboratory needs 
and the expertise of the applicant. An applicant must have good skills 
in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Lithuanian is not required 
but would be an advantage for long term employment.
