Want to be part of shaping the future biobased green society?

Join the new Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability

Two Postdoc and two PhD positions in Metagenomics Systems Biology

Two Postdoc and two PhD positions are available in the Metagenomics Systems Biology Section. The successful applicants will be engaged in research activities with the purpose of developing methods for the analysis of functional differences in pangenomic data.

The Metagenomics Systems Biology section will make use of metagenomics for added chemical diversity, harnessing the genetic and chemical potential of the wealth of unculturable microbes and develop methods for efficiently integrating them in microbial cell factories. Additionally, the section will also advance the area of metagenomics to include higher omics such as meta-transcriptomics and meta-metabolomics. The application of these areas will result in essential basic research into the dynamics of co-existing microorganisms.

The section is a computational group where the efforts are focused on understanding and discovering essential metagenomic biology at the systems level. Our research is conducted in close collaboration with the other sections of the Center for Biosustainablity as well as a range of leading researchers elsewhere in Denmark and abroad.

Qualifications
The ideal candidates should be able to conduct independent and creative research within systems biology, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good interpersonal and communication skills.

Interest in both the biological and computational aspects of metagenomics is essential.

Experience with development of integrative computational techniques for metapathway-oriented analysis of data from metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, metaproteomics, meta-metabolomics, generated from microbial communities, and/or data generation, integration and mapping for metatranscriptomics for microbial communities is desirable, but not a requirement.

Motivation, flexibility and confidence, along with an analytical attitude of devising innovative
scientific or technical solutions will be considered positively.

Candidates for the Postdoc positions must have a PhD degree or equivalent and a record of peer-reviewed publications relevant to the position.

Candidates for the PhD positions should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Approval and enrolment of PhD Students
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment terms of the Postdocs will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years, with the possibility of 1 year extension.

The salary and appointment terms for the PhD positions are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment for PhD student is 3 years.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability is an international research center at the Danish Technical University funded by a grant of 700 million DKK from Novo Nordisk Foundation. The center conduct research in metabolic engineering, cell factories, in silico systems biology, metagenomics and plant biochemistry with the purpose of developing new processes and technologies that can support a more sustainable bio-based production of fine chemicals in the future. The Center brings together some of the world's leading researchers in the field and will possess the advanced equipment and facilities required for achieving its ambitious research goals. Impact on society by innovation has a high priority and the Center collaborate worldwide with biotech companies and chemical industries to facilitate the dissemination and exploitation of its results.
