Dear colleagues,

I was wondering if you could perhaps help me out by arranging for the
information below, and the associated pdf flyer, to be distributed locally
in your department or indeed to places you consider appropriate.

We have just landed a major Wellcome Trust PhD programme (20 fellowships, 5
year) in Infection Biology and I'm on the steering committee. There is a
really strong core of PIs involved in this, committed to it succeeding and
are interested in really high calibre candidates. Cambridge seems a good
place to consider! The students get a very generous stipend, this programme
dovetails with another already in place, and it is a really good opportunity
for suitably driven students (its a 4 year programme). Dublin is also a
really vibrant city, with mountains 15 mins away, the city sits on the ocean
and there is a lot of nice tradition and culture here.

best wishes
Neil

University College Dublin is delighted to announce a new 4 year PhD
programme in Computational Infection Biology funded by the Wellcome Trust.
The first students will begin in September 2011.

This programme is aimed at students who are interested in integrating
computational methods with biological research to investigate the
association of pathogens with both animal and human hosts. Students may
enter with a background in biological science or in computational or
mathematical science.
University College Dublin is the largest university in Ireland, with an
excellent reputation in research. The programme will offer projects
supervised by researchers from many diverse Institutes and Schools within
the university. Students will have the opportunity to experience both
laboratory-based and computational/mathematical research before choosing a
final project.
Funding and eligibility
Applicants from the EU are eligible for a studentship that includes a
maintenance stipend and fees paid at the home/EU rate. Applicants should
have at least an upper-second class (II.1) honours or equivalent degree in a
relevant subject, and should meet standard UCD English language
requirements.

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is the 18th March
(10.00A.M.)
