Tasks

You will be supporting scientists at the Swedish Museum of Natural History (SMNH) and at other Swedish research institutions with complex phylogenetic and phylogenomic computations. You will also be responsible for arranging user workshops and for launching a web-based service for standard analyses in collaboration with SNIC, the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (www.snic.vr.se). The position is jointly funded by SMNH and BILS (Bioinformatics Infrastructure for Life Sciences, www.bils.se), an infrastructure project funded by the Swedish Research Council (www.vr.se). The position will be placed at SMNH but you will be expected to spend one or two days per week at SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se) at the Karolinska institute.

You will be joining a small team of biologists and programmers at the SMNH’s new Department of Biodiversity Informatics. We develop informatics solutions, computational algorithms and software for the life sciences. English is used alongside Swedish as the working language.

Qualifications

We expect you to have a PhD in bioinformatics, phylogenetics or genomics, and intimate knowledge of the computational methods and software used in the field. A solid background in math and computer science is a plus, as well as previous experience with similar tasks.

Because of the nature of the position, we are expecting the successful candidate to be fluent in English and have excellent communication skills. We will attach great importance to personal characteristics.

Starting date. The position will be filled as soon as possible. It is funded for two years, with a possibility of prolongation.

Information about the position may be obtained from professor Fredrik Ronquist, head of the Department of Biodiversity Informatics. Union representatives are Bodil Kajrup, SACO-S and Yvonne Arremo, ST. All can be reached at 08-519 540 00.

Application with personal letter and CV, marked with dnr 33-746/2011, should reach rekrytering at nrm.se or Naturhistoriska riksmuseet, Box 50007, SE-104 05 STOCKHOLM, no later than December 5, 2011. Original documents are to be presented by the selected candidates in connection with the interview.
