Three-year post doc position in cancer genomics

A three-year post doc position is available in the Bioinformatics
Group at Department of Molecular Medicine, Department of Clinical
Medicine, Health, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The bioinformatics group is a vibrant, international research group
comprising PhD students, post docs, and technical staff. The research
focuses on development and application of sound statistical methods
driven by biological and clinical questions. The research questions
are rooted in cancer genomics with an emphasis on genomic instability
and regulatory roles of non-coding RNAs. The group collaborates
closely with experimental groups at the department as well as other
computational groups at the University. In addition, the group has
long-standing national and international collaborations. The group has
access to extensive computational infrastructure, including
super-computer facilities, and hosts the European mirror of the UCSC
Genome Browser.

The present project will focus on evolutionary and integrative
analysis of multiple clinical cancer samples from the same patient.
Several heterogeneous functional genomics data sets are generally made
from each sample, including whole genome sequencing and RNAseq. The
research aims at characterizing the molecular changes happening during
cancer progression. The research will include both algorithmic /
statistical method development, data analysis, and biological /
clinical interpretation. The overall project is defined and executed
in close collaboration with the experimental groups, who will also be
responsible for experimental and clinical follow-up. The project is a
part of the activities in the iSEQ center at Aarhus University.

We seek a highly motivated person with the following qualifications:
• A PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, or related field.
• Experienced in genomic data analysis.
• Experience with programming (R, Python, and C++ are preferred
languages) and familiarity with LINUX / UNIX.
• Excellent English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Published in good quality peer-reviewed journals.
• Great collaborative skills coupled with ability to work independently.

The Department of Molecular Medicine is a Nordic Center of Excellence
in Molecular Medicine, and has more than 15 years of experience in
cancer genomics, based on a highly skilled staff of 45 scientists
(www.mdl.dk). The department houses an NGS facility with both HiSeq
and MiSeq machines as well as internationally renown cancer tissue
data banks.

For further information, do not hesitate to contact head of
Bioinformatics group, Assoc. Prof. Jakob Skou Pedersen
(jakob.skou at ki.au.dk; +45 784 55360) or head of the Department, Prof.
Torben Ørntoft (+45 784 55300).

Salary and terms of employment:
The successful applicant will be hired as a post doc for a 3-year
period. While negotiation for salary supplement is possible, the
starting salary level is currently DKK 31.400 a month (approx. US $
6000) plus contribution to a pension scheme. The conditions of
employment are based on the agreement between The Ministry of Finance
and The Federation of Graduate Employee Unions. Remuneration will
include an additional pension-based bonus of DKK 49.943 per year.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions
(up to 25%), if they have not lived in Denmark the last 3 years.

The application should include a curriculum vitae, a full list of the
applicant’s scientific publications showing which publications the
applicant wishes to be included in the assessment, and information
about teaching experience. The assessment committee can decide to
include material which has not been in the evaluation. In this event,
the applicant will be informed and asked to send the material, or else
to withdraw the application.

Applications are encouraged regardless of age, gender, race, religion
or ethnic background.
