The Bujnicki laboratory in the International Institute of Molecular and
Cell Biology (IIMCB) in Warsaw, Poland (http://iimcb.gov.pl) offers PhD
and posdoctoral positions in a project aiming at structural
characterization of RNAs and protein-RNA complexes.

The scientific goal of this project is to characterize the relationship
between sequence, structure, and function in the RNA world, using
combined tools of bioinformatics, experimental biochemistry and
structural biology. The objectives of the proposed research project are
RNA structure prediction, validation/improvement of the predictions with
the use of experimental data, and determination of high-resolution
structures of RNA molecules. The project will be carried out in a
multisciplinary environment in collaboration with experimentalists and
theoreticians and will benefit from the cutting-edge equipment federated
within IIMCB, the top-ranked Polish research institute in the field of
biology.

1. Position for a postdoctoral researcher - theoretician,

Starting January 1st, 2013, contract for 3 years.

For this position we are looking for a "power user" familiar with
molecular biology and with extensive experience in using various
bioinformatics tools, in particular for comparative sequence analyses
and structure prediction. This project requires experience in structural
/ evolutionary bioinformatics, sequence analyses, database searches,
phylogenetic studies, macromolecular structure prediction. Experience in
comparative analyses/structure prediction of RNA is advantageous but not
mandatory.

Applicants for the postdoctoral position must:
• hold PhD in computational, natural of life sciences
• have experience in bioinformatics documented by publications
• know Linux and have at least intermediate skills in programming in Python
• demonstrate fluency in English (written and spoken)

2. Position for a PhD student with background in experimental structural
biology and/or biochemistry.

Starting October 1st, 2012 funded for 4 years

Research will involve RNA and protein purification and a lot of various
biochemical and biophysical experiments (including crystallization and
crystal structure determination).

Applicants for the PhD position must:
• have a MSc degree and be eligible for admission to a PhD programme
under supervision of prof. Bujnicki;
• have experience in experimental analyses of proteins & DNA/RNA;
• demonstrate fluency in English (written and spoken)

Applications for either position must contain:
• Curriculum vitae;
• List of publications and/or major achievements;
• Motivation for applying, up to 1 A4-page (including, but not limited
to answers to the following questions: what do you know about the
research in the Bujnicki lab, what are your best skills and how would
you like to apply them to contribute to what we are doing, and what
would you like to achieve by working with us)
• Contact details of at least two persons for references including one
from the previous supervisor

Applications will be collected only by email (to
employment at genesilico.pl), until August 31st, 2012.
Selected candidates will be contacted in the first week of September
Interviews will be held on September 10th.

Please include in your offer: "In accordance with the personal data
protection act from 29th August 1997, I hereby agree to process and to
store my personal data by the Institution for recruitment purposes”.
