Scientific position in computational systems biology

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is an impartial and multitechnological R&D organisation that provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services. From its wide knowledge base, VTT can combine different technologies, create new innovations and a substantial range of world-class technologies and applied research services, thus improving its clients' competitiveness and competence. Through its international scientific and technology networks, VTT can produce information, upgrade technology knowledge and create business intelligence and value added to its stakeholders.

Your task will be metabolic modelling of eukaryotic micro-organisms in bioprocess conditions. In addition, the position includes processing systems biology, genomics and metabolomics data with bioinformatics methods, and creation of mathematical models from systems-wide data. We expect you to develop VTT's competence in computational biology connected to microbial production processes. The appointment will be for a fixed one year term. This position offers an opportunity to gain experience and contribute to the new promising areas of systems biology and synthetic biology as well as work together with researchers from two Academy of Finland Centres of Excellence: White Biotechnology - Green Chemistry and Molecular Systems Immunology and Physiology (SyMMyS).

We offer challenging and interesting work assignments and up-to-date facilities in an internationally well-known research centre. VTT offers good promotion possibilities and benefits of a large employer.

You will be a member of the Cell Factory Knowledge Centre, but will work in collaboration with our Quantitative Biology and Bioinformatics group.

Location: Tietotie 2, Espoo, Finland.

Qualification requirements
We expect you to have a MSc or PhD degree in bioinformatics or molecular biology and strong competence in the computational processing and mathematical modelling of systems biology data. Skills in metabolic modelling are regarded as an asset. Good skills in spoken and written English are needed. Additionally, the candidate must be ready to develop new skills, motivated for collaboration and excel in team work.
