PostDoc NGS Informatics-MOL000000Y9

AstraZeneca is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in the Omics / NGS area to be located at Science for Life Laboratory.

AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

The Arena

SciLifeLab (www.scilfelab.se) is a national center for large-scale life sciences with an advanced technological infrastructure. The focus is on performing multidisciplinary research involving highthroughput DNA sequencing, analysis of gene expression, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology. The objective is to enable researchers to carry out extensive and comprehensive analysis of genes, transcripts and proteins in humans and relevant microbes, such as viruses and bacteria, and to cast light on the complex interplay between different molecular components in living cells, tissues and organs related to human diseases or environmental issues. Examples of thematic research areas that are currently being pursued at SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genomics, genomics of complex diseases, and ecological and environmental genomics. Bioinformatics and systems biology are important parts of the center, and a large proportion of the personnel have their main activity in these fields.

The role

AstraZeneca is seeking a highly talented individual for a two year post-doctoral position located at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), Stockholm, Sweden, with possible extension. The position will be funded by the R&D Information department at AstraZeneca, and the successful applicant will belong to the AstraZeneca organization. The main focus of this postdoc program will lie in the genomics area, using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies to increase our understanding of biological systems and disease mechanisms, however, integration with additional types of data will also be an important aspect in order to generate a more holistic view. Furthermore, there will be an emphasis on interactions with colleagues at AstraZeneca, as well as SciLifeLab staff and the wider academic community, both for biological and technological aspects of the projects.

The ideal candidate holds a doctoral degree in Bioinformatics / Computational Biology or similar field, with experience in NGS analysis. Data integration skills (different kinds of NGS data and other types of omics, network and sample data) are desirable, as well as basic biological and pharmacological knowledge. There will be an emphasis on collaboration and communication skills, both within the group, virtually (using e-mail, telephone and video conferencing) and externally.

Accountabilities:

*	Drive NGS aspects of a number of projects, including experimental design, data analysis and presentation
*	Integration of NGS data and additional data types, e.g. different types of NGS data, proteomics data and biological networks to generate a more holistic view
*	Summarize and communicate data, results and knowledge locally, with AstraZeneca colleagues and externally (writing papers, presenting at conferences)
*	Transfer of technological as well as project specific knowledge between SciLifeLab and AstraZeneca

Minimum experience

Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics / Computational Biology or related field; Experience in NGS data processing; Comfortable using Linux (including command line) and proficient in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, Java, R); Excellent collaboration and communications skills, excellent written and verbal command of English language; Ability to drive projects independently; Good understanding of biological systems and pharmacological approaches

Preferred experience/requirements

Post-doctoral experience in relevant field; Experience from working with multiple NGS data types (genomic, exomic, RNAseq, ncRNAseq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation); Understanding of epigenetics; Experience in other omics areas (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics); Interdisciplinary research experience; Basic command of Swedish language;
