 Associate Professor in Bioinformatics
A position as Associate Professor in Bioinformatics is available from
September 1st 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter in the Section for
Computational and RNA Biology, Department of Biology. The Section employs
around 40 researchers, and has many connections with high-profile
experimental groups, local and international. The center is housed in the
Biocenter in central Copenhagen, Denmark, and is well funded with
significant computer power and support. Information about the

The successful candidate should have a strong academic track record in
bioinformatics and an active research program. Moreover, the ideal
applicant has an exceptional publication record with significant first and
senior authorships.
Applicants should also have spent significant time in research institutes
outside of Denmark in one or more postdoctoral periods. We are primarily
interested in applicants with a strong base in statistics, but any type of
focus areas in bioinformatics /computational biology will be considered.
Applicants that complement the expertise of existing groups will be favored.

The applicant is expected to build up his/her own independent group and
interact with other groups in the Section as well as outside. The position
will include a small start-up package including two years postdoc salary,
mentorship and support for applying for additional funds. We expect that
the candidate will be able to secure substantial additional funding (such
as ERC starting or consolidator grants).

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience,
documented teaching competencies, and must be able to explain and reflect
upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training
or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training
programme for Assistant Professors is required in order to obtain a
permanent position.

Duties include the applicant´s own research, development of the field,
assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as
supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The
successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in
examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented,
original scientific production at an international level, including
contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented
teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of
applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be
considered.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic
Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the
Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional
Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary is currently
For Assoc. Professor the starting salary is currently up to DKK 441,149
including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 75,437).

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
