> THE OPPORTUNITY
>
> A major goal in modern crop science is to identify novel plant traits and the genes that confer them to meet the ever growing demands of high yielding varieties and a sustainable agriculture. Gene orthology inference enables the translation of knowledge based on model species to important crops. This project aims at developing the plant-relevant aspects of the OMA orthology database (http://omabrowser.org) and to contribute to ongoing efforts on crop genome sequencing and annotation efforts (including cotton, wheat, canola, rice, maize and soybean genomes).
>
> The fellow will also have the opportunity of developing new research directions within the broad field of plant genomics.
>
> The fellow will be provided with strong mentorship and be given appropriate scientific training opportunities. During the time spent at Bayer CropScience, the fellow will have the opportunity to propel farming's future together with one of the most attractive employers in the industrial sector. During the time spent at UCL, the fellow will be fully embedded in the departmental life. In recent years, the UCL has been voted as the best place for postdoc to work by an international survey run by the magazine “The Scientist”.
