The successful candidate will work in the Epigenetic group headed by Dr M. Jagodic (http://ki.se/en/cns/maja-jagodics-research-group). The group is a part of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) center which gathers around 40 researchers working on different aspects of pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), including genetics, epidemiology, immunology and epigenetics, with excellent clinical cohorts and experimental models. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated disease with complex interactions between genetic and environmental risk factors resulting in a highly heterogeneous disease with respect to its clinical presentation and treatment response. Therefore, identifying factors that contribute to this clinical variability is a major research goal within our group using a cohort of clinically well characterised patients followed up for over 12 years. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who will develop and implement bioinformatic approaches to (i) stratify patients into distinct subgroups based on multiple omics and phenotypic data, and (ii) identify prognostic biomarkers based on most discriminative classifiers. This includes analysis of data generated from different genomic platforms (e.g. HumanMethylation450 BeadChip array) as well as developing predictive algorithms for disease severity based on genetic, epigenetic and environmental information. The work will include design of analysis, data processing, quality control, statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The post-holder will to a minor extent also provide support to the ULTRA-DD research teams at the Division of Rheumatology regarding data management and analysis, using the Scarab database system. The tasks will be carried out in close collaboration with Prof. Julian Knight at the Welcome Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford and with Dr. Brian Marsden, at Structural Genomics ConsortiumOxford. To this end, it is expected that the successful candidate will spend a minimum of 1/4 of the time in Oxford as a visiting scientist and carry out relevant parts of the project at our collaborators’ laboratories. Thank you in advance for sharing the announcement and helping us to spread the word. Best wishes, Gretchen *---* *The Novo Nordisk Foundation Centers for Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) and Protein Research (CPR) at the University of Copenhagen are jointly seeking applications for the position of Bioinformatics Specialist.* The DanStem and CPR Genomics Platform provides high-throughput sequencing services with personalized support, covering applications from classical genomics to single-cell transcriptomics and has generated a demand for bioinformatics support. Therefore, the Centers intend to develop a new informatics platform to full fill the need of bioinformatics and computational approaches to data analysis enhancing the scientific synergies between the two centers. We are now seeking a highly motivated and qualified bioinformatician with specialty in genomics to work within the Informatics Platform at DanStem and CPR. Please read more information on our open positions webpage: https://danstem.ku.dk/news/bioinformatics-specialist/ The closing date for applications is September 2 at 23.59 pm. ELIXIR supports its formally recognised Communities by providing funding for workshops and short collaborative projects associated with the Community. Structural bioinformatics has a broad impact across the life sciences and provides tools to archive, visualise, analyse, annotate, and predict molecular structures. The science of structural bioinformatics is traditionally very strong in Europe offering many software tools, methodologies, and databases, as well as community-wide prediction challenges. Its applications cover research activities from structural biology to drug discovery and personalised medicine that are all well represented within the national ELIXIR nodes. At the meeting we will have presentations from structural bioinformatics groups engaged in or planning ELIXIR endorsed activities around structure based analyses and prediction methods. There will also be presentations from other ELIXIR communities with related interests and from ELIXIR platforms with guidance on how structural bioinformatics groups can collaborate with ELIXIR support. Importantly, we will have a session planning the activities and aims that will form the basis of a white paper to submit to the ELIXIR hub for endorsement as a Community in Structural Bioinformatics. This meeting will be held on Friday 19th October, the day after the SWISS-MODEL 25th Anniversary Symposium, being held at the same venue. *It is not necessary to register for the SWISS-MODEL meeting to attend the 3D-BioInfo meeting. * *The meeting will start at 10.00 am and end at 5.30pm.* *There will be a cost of 50 CHF to register for the meeting.* The meeting will be capped at 100 participants so please register soon to avoid disappointment. *Registration site: https://swissmodel.expasy.org/25years/elixir * *Call for abstracts and posters*: If you would like to give a flash talk (one slide) to advertise a poster at the meeting on a proposed ELIXIR activity (involving collaborations across two or more groups within an ELIXIR node and preferably involving two or more nodes) please send a summary (maximum one page) to c.orengo at ucl.ac.uk outlining the groups and ELIXIR nodes involved and the ELIXIR platforms this activity would relate to i.e. interoperability, data, tools, compute or training. The proposed activity should ideally involve two or more platforms. *Deadline for the abstracts: September 30th* Ideas presented at the meeting will be considered for inclusion in the application to become an ELIXIR Community. *Further information* For information on the timelines for forming an ELIXIR Community in Structural Bioinformatics please see: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10a5PTWA8b00i7jYeuyOQQ0OXdn-EUoUI/view?usp=sharing For information on suggested major themes and activities of the 3D-BioInfo Community – please see link below.
