The research group is connected to SciLifeLab and is part of the National Program for Data-driven Life Science (DDLS). The lab's research is focused on computational method development (statistical approaches and machine learning) for single-cell gene expression data (such as single-cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics and in situ sequencing) to infer complex cell features. The two main projects aim to infer cellular lineage relationships and cellular micro-environments respectively. This in turn lays the basis for applications in precision medicine related to human biopsies and cancer heterogeneity. The candidates will have the opportunity to individually drive the projects forward and develop their own line of research as well as to extent their skills at the intersection of mathematics, programming and biology. https://www.scilifelab.se/researchers/marcel-tarbier/ ------------------------------------------------------- *Requirements* PhD degree (for postdoc) or Master's degree (for research assistant) in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, data science, applied statistics, machine learning, biotechnology, molecular biology/medicine or equivalent or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree / Master's degree. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Skills at the intersection of mathematics, programming and biology are required. The applicant should have experience in two of these fields and an interest in learning about the remaining one. The candidate is required to possess a strong command of R or python programming as well as experience in the development of original code for data analysis. Experience in statistics, handling of big datasets, data analysis and visualization is expected. Fluency in written and spoken English is necessary. *Additional qualifications* Any of the following skills is considered a merit. · Experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics or in situ sequencing · Experience in handling technical and other biases in the data and in handling complex data with interdependent features · Experience with HPC, parallelization and handling of large datasets · Experience in feature inference (e.g., inferring an unobserved external factor through its footprint in the data, i.e., transcription factor activity from RNA-sequencing data) · Experience in multi-omics integration, machine learning or RNA pseudo-time and velocity analyses *About the employment* Postdoc: The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement, with possibility of 1 year extension. Full time position. Starting date as agreed. Research Assistant: The employment is a temporary position, 6 months with possibility of extension. Full time position. Starting date as agreed. ------------------------------------------------------- *Marcel Tarbier* DDLS-Fellow / Assistant Professor in Data-Driven Life Sciences for Precision Medicine and Diagnostics SciLifeLab and Uppsala University scilifelab.se/researchers/marcel-tarbier Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology Rudbeck laboratory 751 85 UPPSALA Sweden -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... While the past years have witnessed remarkable advancements, particularly with AI-driven approaches such as AlphaFold and RosettaFold, many challenges remain in fully understanding macromolecular structures, their dynamics, and functional mechanisms. This EMBO Workshop will explore key open questions in the field, including the structure and behavior of intrinsically disordered proteins, multi-domain systems, large molecular machines, and RNA molecules. Special attention will be given to integrating machine learning and AI predictions with experimental techniques, a frontier still evolving and requiring deeper synergy between disciplines. The Workshop will consist of lectures by leading computer scientists and computational and experimental structural biologists. By bringing these communities together, the event aims to foster discussions, inspire new collaborations, and drive forward the development of innovative methodologies, rather than detailing technical aspects. The ultimate goal is to bridge the remaining gaps and push the boundaries of Structural Biology toward a more comprehensive understanding of the molecular world. This EMBO Workshop is principally aimed at the mature graduate student/postdoctoral level, but applications from scientists at all levels are encouraged. *About EMBO Courses and Workshops* EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender). Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.
