Postdoctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term), Taipale group, University of Cambridge, UK

Job ref : PH22170
Post Title : Postdoctoral Research Associate Org Unit : Department of Biochemistry Category : Research Max Salary : £32,816-£40,322 End date : 28 February 2020

This opportunity has arisen through Professor Jussi Taipale commencing as the new Herchel Smith Professor of Biochemistry. The Taipale group is based in the University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry, Central Cambridge. The focus of the work in the laboratory is aimed at understanding how DNA sequences determine where and when genes are expressed (see Yin et al., Science 2017; Zhu et al., Nature 2018), and how deregulated transcription drives tumourigenesis (see Sur et al., Science 2012; Dave et al, eLife 2017). The research of the group will have impact on both the fundamental understanding of the regulation of gene expression, and on knowledge of the mechanisms that control cell growth during normal development and in pathologies such as cancer.

As part of the phased development of the Taipale group in Cambridge there is a position available for a Post-doctoral Research Associate using computational genome-wide approaches to study transcription and signal transduction. The candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science, Genetics, Biochemistry, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Medicine or a related field.
The duties involve development and use of computational tools to analyze large in house and external datasets using advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational biology, statistical and bioinformatic approaches. Applicants interested in any of the above research areas and/or interested in developing a novel research direction will be considered.

The selection processes will be conducted in March-April and the post is available from summer 2020. The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
