Dear Bolin Centre Students and early career scientists

The attached email is a call for a position in an exciting project at the
University of East Anglia. The subject involves developing better physical
and chemical (possibly biological) models and process understanding for
the air/snow/ice /sea water or land interface. It needs good modelling
skills as well as keen interest in both physics and chemistry.
OASIS was a major project in International Polar Year and now in the
Future Earth programme connected with its core International Global Air
Chemistry (IGAC) and Surface Ocean Lower Atmosphere (SOLAS) research
projects.

Postdoc: Numerical modelling of snow photochemistry

The aim of this position is to improve an existing 1D model of snow
photochemistry, expand and evaluate it against various sets of field data
and laboratory results. Furthermore photochemical processes involving sea
ice will be included. Based on the outcome of this, a simplified version
will be developed for inclusion into regional and global 3D models such as
WRF-Chem and UKCA. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is
interested in the technical challenge of scientific code development and
the scientific challenge of understanding fundamental snow and sea ice
processes and the relevance for the atmosphere.

This position is part of a 5-year research project funded by the European
Research Council (ERC) with the overriding aim to improve our understanding
of the links between the Arctic atmosphere, sea ice and snow.

The successful candidate will have a degree in natural sciences or a
related field and ideally experience with numerical modelling including 3D
modelling. This is a full time 24 month post, with an intended start date
of 1 January 2015 or soonest thereafter.

This project will be conducted in the Centre for Ocean and Atmospheric
Sciences (COAS) at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of East
Anglia, Norwich, UK.

£31,342 to £37,394 per annum; Closing date: 12 noon on 07 Nov 2014. Further
details and application form: http://tinyurl.com/nzqxn9n

Please contact Prof Roland von Glasow (R.von-Glasow at uea.ac.uk) for further
information and informal discussions.
