Programme
There will be interesting talks and posters by members of the Bolin Centre, discussions over fika, a PhD poster competition with refreshments and give-aways and a nice relaxed dinner with a Ceilidh dance. There are excellent opportunities to interact with the Bolin Centre External Science Advisory Group during the Bolin Days. The Bolin Centre are also hosting a seminar by the internationally renowned researcher in climate and the Earth system Will Steffen the day before the Bolin Days, see below.
Registration
If you are interested in Climate and the Earth Sciences, you are most welcome to the Bolin Days, whether you are a member of the Centre or not. If you would like to join the centre or get more information, see http://www.bolin.su.se/index.php/join-the-bolin-centre <http://www.bolin.su.se/index.php/join-the-bolin-centre>.

Information to speakers
Thank you for giving a talk at the Bolin Days!
Please register at www.bolin.su.se/bolindays2015 <http://www.bolin.su.se/bolindays2015>
IMPORTANT:
Please make sure that your presentation is aimed at non-experts, i.e. people with a general knowledge of climate research
This is not the time to go into tricky details of your research – save that for the experts at your group seminars
A short and practical guide of how to make a successful presentation is included. Please have a look at it.
Please contact your chair for information about the length of your talk
Please do not overrun your time allowance. Everyone will give you the evil eye if you do.
Please consider that the talk should be a few minutes less than the scheduled time to allow for questions
We would really appreciate it if you would use the Bolin Centre PPT template included in this email
Send your presentation to your chair so he/she can import that into his/her computer
Check that the presentation works as it should in the pause before the research area session
Speakers who are not members of the Bolin Center:
It is a nice thing to become a member if you are speaking at our internal conference!
Please follow the instructions at http://bolin.su.se/index.php/how-to-join-the-bolin-centre <http://bolin.su.se/index.php/how-to-join-the-bolin-centre>
Information to chairs
Thank you for chairing at the Bolin Days!
Please register at www.bolin.su.se/bolindays2015 <http://www.bolin.su.se/bolindays2015>
Please contact the speakers in your group and make sure they know their time allowance, and that this includes time for questions
Please bring a computer to the Bolin Days with all your RA talks on it and make sure everything works with the presentations in the pause before your session
Please do not overrun your session
Please send the presentations to me after the Bolin Days
Some tips for the chair:
Please remind the speakers to use the clock above the audience as a reference
Give the speaker a very clear 3 minute warning
This allows the speaker to modify their talk if he/she is in danger of over-running
Make sure that you get eye contact with your speaker (some speakers are expert at avoiding eye contact with the chairperson!)
If you feel that a speaker is not wrapping up towards the end of these three minutes, give him/her a 1 minute warning
Stand up and approach the speaker if he/she over-runs
Please do not feel shy about doing this and making it clear to a speaker that it is time to stop talking. This is fair game for a session chair.
It is not fair for the following speakers or the audience to let the current speaker over-run
If despite your efforts, a speaker has over-run, feel free to omit questions and go straight to the next speaker
You can use phrases such as “I am sure that NN would be delighted to take questions during the coffee break, but we are running out of time and need to move on …”
Feel free to cut off someone in the audience if he/she is waffling and/or not asking a question
Have confidence – this is your session!
The External Science Advisory Group visit the Bolin Days
The Bolin Centre External Science Advisory Group (ESAG) will visit the Bolin Days to enjoy the presentations, participate in the social events and finally give some advice to the Bolin Centre. Here is a presentation of the External Science Advisory Group http://bolin.su.se/index.php/external-science-advisory-group <http://bolin.su.se/index.php/external-science-advisory-group>
Interesting seminar before the Bolin Days
Professor Will Steffen will give a talk titled The Anthropocene: Where on Earth are we going? scheduled for 13:00 Tuesday 17 November at Nordenskiöld room, Geoscience building.
