Apply for Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics!

Application period to the Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics
(MBI) organised by the University of Helsinki and Helsinki University
of Technology for the academic year 2007-2008 is open.

Bioinformatics is a new, interdisciplinary field of science, which
aims at developing new computational models, methods and tools for
applications in biosciences and medicine. The need for bioinformatics
grows constantly as the focus of biosciences research shifts from the
study of individual genes to systems biology and the availability of
experimental data increases.

The Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics educates high-quality
professionals for research and development of computational and
statistical methods in biosciences and medicine. In addition, the
degree gives an excellent background for graduate studies in
bioinformatics and related fields.

The teaching is given by people working in the cutting edge of
bioinformatics research. For instance, people from three research
units chosen to be Centres of Excellence by the Academy of Finland
have a central role in the Programme.

A student may choose a specialisation area from a number of topics,
including
* Biosequence analysis
* Data mining of biological data
* Gene location
* Gene function prediction
* Computational systems biology
* Population dynamics and evolution

Application period ends in 31 January 2007.
