Bioinformatician, research group in Molecular Medicine

at the Department of Medical Sciences, for two years with possibility of
extension or according to mutual agreement. Starting date as soon as
possible.

The research group in Molecular Medicine applies and develops modern
methods for genome analysis of human diseases and participates in
several international and national collaborative projects. The research
groups has 10-12 members (www.medsci.uu.se/molmed ) mainly working with
autoimmune diseases and pediatric leukemia. The SNP&SEQ technology
Platform (www.genotyping.se , www.sequencing.se) offers SNP-genotyping
and next generation sequencing services to academic researchers in
Sweden and other countries, is part of the genomics platform of Science
för Life Laboratory – Uppsala and is operated in close connection with
the research group in Molecular Medicine. The platform is well equipped
with modern laboratory- and computer systems for large scale genomic
analyses. We are now looking for a Bioinformatician to strengthen the
research of the Molecular Medicine group in the rapidly developing field
of genomics.

Work description: The work will be performed as member of the research
group in Molecular Medicine in close collaboration with researcher, post
doctoral and graduate students as well as other bioinformaticians in the
group. The work involves deep bioinformatic analyses of DNA-sequence,
transcritome and genotype data produced by next generation sequencing
technology. Part of the work will be performed in the context of the
EU-funded project “European Sequencing and Genotyping Infrastructure” in
which leading European laboratories for next generation sequencing
participate.

Required qualifications: Masters degree or PhD in Bioinformatics,
Molecular Biotechnology or Molecular Biology. Strong competence in
programming and experience form working in a Linux/Unix environment are
required.

Other qualifications: Previous experience of analyzing next generation
sequencing data and use of compute clusters are considered as merits.
Analysis of sequence data, data from international genome databases and
knowledge in genetics, SNP-technology or biostatistics are also
advantageous.
