There are two postdoctoral positions available at the computational
systems biology (CSB) group (http://www.ltdk.helsinki.fi/sysbio/csb/)
at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Area: systems biology, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, network
theory / machine learning, cancer
Duration: 2-3 years (extension possible)
Starting date: August 2010 (negotiable)
Closing date for applications: February 28th 2010

Both projects are in the area of cancer systems biology and done in
close collaboration with experimental groups. Results from these
projects will be validated with independent data and assays.

The first project focuses on gene regulation in breast cancer and
integrates time-course binding data for selected transcription factors
using next-generation sequencing (Solexa ChIP-seq) together with
transcriptomics time series (Solexa RNA-seq) and dynamic histone
modification data after stimuli. The candidate will be using the
existing data management and integration platform in the CSB and
developing and applying algorithms to integrate and analyze these
data. Ideally, the candidate has strong methodological expertise
(e.g., machine learning, algorithmics), good programming and
communication skills and is interested in applying novel methods to
cancer research.

The second project focuses on developing methods to integrate and
interpret data from large-scale high-throughput experiments (gene
array, exon array, SNP array, array-CGH, miRNA array, epigenetics) for
 >300 glioblastoma multiforme samples with clinical data (survival
time, treatments, etc.). The candidate will be developing algorithms
to integrate and analyze these data using, for example, network
theoretic or Bayesian formalisms. Ideally, the candidate has strong
methodological expertise (e.g., graph theory, probability theory),
good programming skills and communication skills and is interested in
applying novel methods to cancer research.

We offer a highly competitive salary, dynamic research environment and
state-of-the-art research facilities. Please send an application
letter, CV and contact details of two referees to:
