APBioNet-BioClues-India Joint Project
Overseas Research Advancement Programme for India (ORAP-IN)
The objective of this programme is to create an opportunity for graduate
students in India to receive funding in the form of fellowship towards
partial fulfillment of the students' graduate program. The mentee, if
selected would travel overseas and join a scientific research group in a
reputed academic or research institution under the mentorship for a period
ranging from four months to twelve months, to gain experience and exposure
to bioinformatics research, and then to return to India to initiate research
collaboration amongst his/her mentors at the host and the school the student
has come from India.
The awardee would receive the fellowship from a program fund disbursed by
APBioNet Secretariat. The fellowship funds shall be given to the host solely
used for research and other expenses by the student. The APBioNet provides
seed funding for the programme (up to a limit of USD 1,000 per
project/person from an initial fund of USD $4,000), while BioClues
facilitates the selection of top students through an Expert Selection Panel
(ESP). Funding from APBioNet shall be on a reimbursement basis from the host
institution upon presenting the proof for candidature. The candidate should
ensure s/he provides all relevant documents from the school vis-a-vis
letters of acceptance from the school the student is studying and a letter
of acceptance from the host institution, along with a statement that the
other financial and travel expenses, including the stay, if any, would be
borne by the candidate's school and outreach team. Payment, if any, would be
paid via PayPal or electronic fund transfer (EFT).
ELIGIBILITY
Bona fide graduate students in Biology (M.Sc/ M.Tech/PhD) registered to an
accredited academic institution for a recognised higher degree is eligible.
In case of PhD fellows, a letter from mentor through proper channel need to
be sent
SELECTION PROCEDURE AND CRITERIA
The candidates for the fellowship under this programme will be shortlisted
by the core members of Bioclues based on the following criteria.
a. Strength of the applicant's CV and educational qualifications and
achievements
b. Soundness of a short research statement
c. Recommendation letter from any one of the applicant’s mentors during
graduate schooling.
d. Quality of the solution to a selection problem examination coordinated by
APBioNet with potential mentors
The selection panel reserves the right to subject applicants, if there are
excessive numbers, to stringent entrance assessment, e.g. selection exam,
mini project, challenge questions, oral interviews in person or by
teleconference or virtual interviews. If there are insufficient good
candidates, the ESP has a right to not make any awards.

Complete application along with references by e mail (

October 9, 2011, 1800hrs IST. (Confidential) Recommendation letters from
mentor’s official e mail need to be sent by the said time. The
