The Oslo node of the FUGE Bioinformatics platform (Bioinformatics Core
Facility) and the Oslo node
of the Norwegian Microarray Consortium are happy to invite you to an
introductory hands-on course
on analysis of next-generation sequencing data using bioinformatics
tools. The course will take place
at the IFI2 building (Ole Johan Dahls hus) at the University of Oslo
between 12th and 14th of March 2012,
and it is free of charge.
Summary:
Course Title: Introduction to analysis of next-generation sequencing
data
Place: The Ole Johan Dahl building at the University of Oslo (Blindern)
Time: March 12-14, 2012.
Deadline for registration: February 20, 2012.
Website:

Detailed information about the course:
The course will cover two real test cases using small RNA-seq and
mRNA-seq data, in addition to a thorough introduction to
challenges and possibilities in the next-generation sequencing field.
The participants will be trained in subjects like:
- understanding different data formats from various sequencing
platforms
- mapping reads to the genome using different state-of-the-art tools
- annotation of mapped reads to coding regions
- statistical analysis of small RNA-seq and mRNA-seq data
- plotting and visualizing results
- basic understanding of Unix necessary to perform the analysis
- basic use of some Galaxy and Hyperbrowser tools
(http://hyperbrowser.uio.no/hb/)
Since this is an introductory course, we do not require any prior
knowledge in the subject. However, we require that all
participants bring their own laptop with a unix/unix-based OS (linux,
mac). It is also an advantage if the participants
are able to install/compile programs and run simple commands using a
terminal.
In order to keep the course as interactive as possible, we will have to
limit the number of participants.
Therefore we ask each institution/group to only apply for one person,
or alternatively pair up with another person sharing a computer.
Please apply for the course by registering at:

More information about the course and the required preparations will be
distributed to the participants at a later time.
Feel free to redirect this e-mail to others that may be interested in
participating.
On behalf of the FUGE Bioinformatics platform and the Norwegian
Microarray Consortium,
