ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF QUANTITATIVE AND SYSTEMS GENETICS

Department of Veterinary Clinical and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health
and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications
for a position as Assistant professor of Quantitative and Systems Genetics
from 15 August 2012 or as soon possible thereafter. The position is limited
to 3 years. Extension may be possible.

We are seeking to fill-in a crucial quantitative genetics/genomics position
for 3-years (full time) in the Quantitative and Systems Genetics (QSG)
group within the department. This is a research-based assistant
professorship position working mainly on a large strategic research
collaboration project called ‘BioChild’ that is headed by Professor Haja
Kadarmideen (see more project information here:
http://www.ibhv.life.ku.dk/English/Nyheder/2012/HAJABIOCHILD.aspx).

He/she will have a frequent working interaction with animal molecular
genetics group in our department. There are plenty of opportunities to work
in human genetics by interacting with BioChild consortium member
institutes: The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
- human metabolic genetics group and childhood obesity clinics of the
Copenhagen Hospital as well as with Indian Institute of Genomics &
Integrative Biology, Delhi and All India Institute of Medical Sciences,
Delhi.
Read more about the QSG Group at: www.systemsgenetics.dk, the Department
of Veterinary Clinical and Animal Sciences at:

Medical Sciences at: http://healthsciences.ku.dk/.

DUTIES
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including
obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and
research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within
quantitative and systems genetics. To a limited extent this may also
include performance of other duties.
- Conduct GWAS, QTL mapping and whole genomic predictions using 60k SNP
datasets and obesity and metabolic phenotypes available in F2 pig resource
population, based on different quantitative and statistical genetic
methodologies.
- Assist in pig transcriptomic (RNAseq) data analyses in order to elucidate
differential and co-regulatory gene networks, biomarkers and molecular
pathways for obesity.
- Assist in Systems genetics or eQTL approaches (based on high density
SNPchip and high-throughput gene expression datasets).
- Publish research findings from above tasks in peer-reviewed international
journals.
- Advice currently enrolled Masters’ and PhD candidate(s) working in
quantitative genetics and/or systems biology.

QUALIFICATIONS - SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications within one or more the following scientific areas are
required:
- Applicants must have a PhD degree in genetics with a major focus on
quantitative- or statistical- or population- or bioinformatic or
integrative systems biology aspects
- GWAS data analyses including meta analyses, preferably in animals or
humans.
- QTLs mapping in intercross or complex pedigrees
- Working experience in R, common statistical analysis software (e.g. SAS,
Asreml, Genstat) and GWAS/QTL mapping programs (e.g. PLINK, GenABEL,
GridQTL)
- Additional working experience with analyses of microarray transcriptomics
datasets (e.g. BioConductor), next generation sequencing technologies based
genomic and transcriptomic datasets and related software (e.g. Cufflinks)
