Dear all
Please forward to good candidates!
Best regards,
Albin Sandelin
--------------------------------------

The Bioinformatics Centre, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen
is recruiting 1-4 postdocs (subject to funding) to work on clinical
computational transcriptomics in Albin Sandelin´s group or bioinformatics
for high-throughput DNA sequencing in Anders Krogh´s group.

The Bioinformatics Centre (http://www.binf.ku.dk) employs around 40
researchers, and has many international connections with high-profile
experimental groups. The group is housed in the newly built Biocenter in
central Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Krogh group is working in computational analysis of
post-transcriptional regulation (focus on small RNAs), ancient genomics,
and metagenomics. Common to all projects is the analysis of
high-throughput sequencing data, mostly from Illumina sequencers. We are
doing method and software development as well as analysis of experimental
data. We are collaborating closely with local experimental groups. The
current positions are within methods and software development and/or
bioinformatics of post-transcriptional regulation.

The Sandelin group is a joint computational/experimental laboratory,
focusing on transcriptomics, gene regulation and disease. The postdoc(s)
will be working on various problems relating to gene regulation and core
promoters in disease, typically analyzing novel and extremely rich data
sets from the experimental part of the group or high-profile international
collaborators. Special emphasis will be placed on alternative promoters,
enhancers and splicing in clinical samples. Representative papers from the
group include Nat Rev Genet. 2012 6;13(4):233-45, Nat Struct Mol Biol.
2011 7;18(9):1075-82, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19074369

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a PhD or equivalent in
bioinformatics or a mathematical discipline with a strong biological
interest, and a substantial publication record in high-quality
international journals. Applicants that are close to finishing their PhD
degree are also welcome to apply. Applicants should either have strong
modeling/applied statistics skills or strong documented experience in
analyzing high-throughput sequencing data. In addition, we strongly value
experience in one or more of the following: sequence analysis, machine
learning, computer science, and expression analysis. The candidate also
needs to be highly proficient in a programming language such as Java,
C/C++, Perl or Python, and be comfortable with Linux systems. Fluency in
spoken and written English is a strong requirement. The work requires the
successful candidate to interact with experimental biologists, and
therefore collaborative skills and willingness to learn new things is
important. As a postdoc you are expected to be able to work fairly
independently and to be able to co-supervise Ph.D. and Master´s students.

The deadline for application is February 28, 2013. We expect the
successful candidates to start in spring 2013. These positions will be
funded by grants from the Novo Nordisk or Lundbeck Foundations. It is
possible to apply for positions in both groups, but please indicate where
your preference lies. The successful applicant will be hired as a postdoc
at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, for an initial 2 year
period.

The application must contain a filled-in application form from
http://people.binf.ku.dk/albin/postdoc/SandelinPostdocApplicationForm.xls

Cover letter (half to one page)
Curriculum vitae
List of publications
Transcript of university examinations (in English or Danish)
Contact details of 2 persons for references

Please apply by using this link http://jobportal.ku.dk/vip/ no later than
February 28, 2013.

The applications will be evaluated by an expert in the field to select
those that qualify for the positions. Each applicant will receive the part
of the evaluation that concerns her/him as well as the name of the expert.
The main criterion for further consideration will be the research
potential of the applicant.

Terms of appointment and payment according to the Agreement between the
Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional
Associations (AC). While negotiation for salary supplement is possible,
the starting salary level is currently DKK 31.800 a month (approx. US $
6000) plus contribution to a pension scheme.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
