The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics (DBB) is an internationally
leading research Department and is mainly located on the main campus of
Stockholm University and to some extent at Science for Life Laboratory. It
is one of the largest Departments at Stockholm University, with more than
200 researchers of which 90 are PhD students in 30 different research
groups. The Department’s research in bioenergetics, protein biogenesis,
membrane proteins, structural biology, bioinformatics, computational
chemistry and biophysics is world-renowned. Researchers at DBB contribute
to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They also
contribute to the development of public policy, political decision-making,
and participate in Nobel Prize awarding committees and international expert
bodies. DBB is an international and multi-cultural department whose staff
has roots in all corners of the world. The Department is aiming to recruit
a world-class scientist in a biochemistry and/or biophysics related field
that can either complement or strengthen the current research.

*Subject*
Biochemistry


*Subject description*Biochemistry encompasses molecular studies of
biological macromolecules using biochemical or biophysical methodology.

*Main responsibilities*
Research, teaching and supervision.


*Qualification requirements*A person who has demonstrated both research and
teaching skills is qualified for employment as a professor. In order to be
appointed as a professor, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

   - Well-documented research skills at a high international level
   - Well-documented teaching skills

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to
collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.

*Assessment criteria*
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research
skills, followed in importance by teaching skills. Some attention will also
be given to administrative skills, the ability to develop and lead research
activities and staff, and the ability to collaborate with the community and
convey information about research and development.

The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the
subject area of the position.


*Teaching and learning in higher education*Completed training in teaching
and learning in higher education is an advantage. An applicant who has not
completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education
and is not considered to have otherwise acquired the corresponding
knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of
employment.

*Additional information*
Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but
the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative
duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
