Subject: Bioinformatician 1 yr position, de Novo sequencing project at GU

Dear all,

we are looking for a bioinformatician to assist in de novo sequencing projects of several marine organisms.

Time: 6 months + 6 months starting 1 Jan 2012.
Located at Cell and Molecular Biology, Univ of Gothenburg.

Preferably a PhD with experience within the area, but a MSc with good references can also be suitable.

The applicant will handle genome sequences from Illumina HiSeq2000 runs and produce contigs and scaffolds for preliminary gene annotation.
The applicant should be proficient in unix, script-programming as well as sequence analysis.
Applicant will communicate with experimental biologists working with the different organisms and must therefore be good at presenting results and assist these researchers.

Applicant will work in a small group of bioinformaticians including specialists in gene prediction.
Assistance for database management will be available through BILS.

NOTE: If the projects receive additional funding (which we will know in June 2012), there are good opportunities to extend the position.

The project organisms include,
the barnacle Balanus improvisus (crustacean)
the snail Littorina saxalis (mollusc),
the diatom Skeletonema miroi (heterokont),
and several more ...
